The only way Pete stays on this team in 2025 is if they make the playoffs this year. Too many expensive piles of steaming, stinking contracts to time-out or off-load before they can consider signing a .220 slugger for 300 million +.
Don't think pete will be getting anywhere near 300 million. I think he will be lucky if he gets 150 million right now.
My main point is that the Mets have much bigger issues than Butto vs Houser.
I get that, but it makes me question the decision maker trying to get this mets ship turnaround. It is one example of many where I question what he is doing. And how do we know butto will be a 5th starter, one thing I do know is I wouldn't want houser starting, maybe 9th or 10th in depth chart if everyone was healthy.
Furthermore why are you going to a 6 man rotation, it shortens the bullpen, they are loaded with mostly veteran pitchers on 1 year deals, what am I missing here. You can keep telling me these things are no big deals but your missing the point, how can you trust the decision maker when they keep making these decisions.
Not saying the Mets can't turn this season around, but they're in serious danger of playing irrelevant baseball in June if they don't pull their thumbs out quick-smart.
I kind of agree what your saying and there was no excuse for this weekend, than again when your closer litterally tries to blow 3 game in a calandar week, you can't complain when your not playing well, you don't have too far too look now, because you had the lead if you held a 4 run lead. The mets schedule outside of this weekend has been difficult. And they are still only 2 game out of the last wc, which is why I'm fustrated and you keep telling me this decision doesn't matter, your right if the arguement is are they as good as the braves or philies a move here of there it isn't gonna matter. But these things I'm complianing about are costing them a game here and and a game there and if you beieve like me that ast wc spot might be lucky to get to 85, a game here and there matters when your all bunched up in barely mediocrity.
Your manager is a big problem for me.
Not that I love him and like any manager he makes his shares of mistakes, but to be honest he hasn't done anything outrageous yet to me in my opinion.
My main point is that the Mets have much bigger issues than Butto vs Houser. With the biggest payroll in all of baseball, you got problems beyond the question of the 5th pitcher when Harrison Bader is leading your team in hitting. Not saying the Mets can't turn this season around, but they're in serious danger of playing irrelevant baseball in June if they don't pull their thumbs out quick-smart.

Your manager is a big problem for me. Might be time to get the shovel and dig up Billy Martin.
You see I disagree on vientos. I don't ever think he has had a full shot. everytime he gets going they pull him out. He hits a game winning homer, they litterally sit him the next day. To get an evaluation you need to see a young kid play day after day for awhile having a guy play every couple of days, he gets several hits and than he sits you won't learn anything that way.
Vientos only time he got consistent playing time was the last month last year. He hit 6 homers in a month. He leads the team in homers in spring, his reward is too be sent down for zack short, when JD wasn't even available at DH. I truely believe he get his full shot he will hit, but they never give him his full shot. They are too interested in short-circuiting him.
And your GM is back at it again, He is gonna drive me Nuts with Houser. Why is Butto In the minor, even when he doesn't have it he battles. Butto was pitching to a 3.08 era over 7 starts, and his reward is too be sent down for the lousy houser in my opinion.
It is a bit odd, the Baty/Vientos roster shuffle in NY. At some point those guys have to get the job or be moved on. It's been years since they came up, with too much hype of course, but it's been long enough to work out if and where they fit in the Mets future plans. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for the player to find their confidence and groove. Sometimes you have to let them go and move on to the next guy. That time has passed in Metville for Baty and Vientos IMO. By stringing them along with a rotating door to the minors, they're just delaying the decsion that needs to be made so that the roster can move on.
Stearns' attempted MO is the same as most successful teams in MLB: lock in a core of 4-5 stars and fill in the gaps with farm talent, cheap and aging veterans (Pham is killing it in Chicago) and FAs. IMO problem #1 in NY is that your core isn't getting the job done at all now, which is obvious and which you've detailed in lots of posts. Until problem #1 gets fixed, forget about the other problems. When Tyrone Taylor and Harrison Bader are leading the team in BA, you're not too far removed from the likes of the Angels. It's hard to believe these guys could be this awful, so maybe they'll snap out of it, hopefully before August for the fans sake.
The Royals made some nice small moves in the off season. They definitely have to spend smart and build from within. I don't expect them to win. I just don't want them to be as bad as they were for the last 5 years. You make a great point about Expos. They weren't ever going to win but they were never awful
Yesterday they were fine, they actually played relatively well. They have played some not so great baseball over the last week to 10 days (sloppy). Yesterday wasn't one of them, they hit, they were fine, they were aggressive on the base pass, they were decent in the field. This game's loss was the fact that the closer can't get anyone out everytime he closes a game he gives up runs and he is actually getting worse. His command is all over the place and his velocity is down. It is a problem a major problem, because right now this isn't diaz one of the best closers in baseball, this is diaz the worst pitcher on the team including the gazillion relivers they send back and forth from triple A. Look I get it they are not great, and the team has holes, but Lindor and Diaz were suppose to be givens in a positive manner. Not one I don't ever want to see up in the bullpen because right now his nickname for me is white flag or throw in the towel, yes he is that bad even when he wasn't blowing saves like this I was complaining saying his location wasn't great and his velocity was waaaaaaaay down, now it has finally gotten to the point where he can't get anyone out. but I seen these problems from the beginnging of the season, he is throwing a ton of hanging sliders his velocity is down on his fastball, he often can't throw strikes, and he is afraid to throw his FB at times, in the game where he threw 13 consecutive sliders to start the inning, another game he gave away.
And Lindor he can't even hit 190. I mean guys like bader have actually done well. The main guys you thought you can count on have failed time and time again. Jeff mcniel suddenly looked better the last two days, he went back to the bat that he won a batting title with a knobless bat, if you were hitting with that bat, why would you change to a completely different bat. I mean he may still not be able to hit, but why change something if it was working for you. He went from a batting title guy to a guy who is hitting 100 points lower almost. I have this manager who inexplicably likes to rest guys like JD martinez today, have they realized they need to win this game, can't get swept by the marlins. I said last year when the season was slipping away there was no urgency, once again you see it again this year.
And why they can't play Vientos, when Baty goes 0-3 today and strikes out a couple of times with a popup of a weak ground ball somewhere. It has been obvious to me that Vientos hits the ball much harder when he does hit it. I believe you have a better chance at a hit if you hit the ball hard versus hitting it weakly. But they insist on short-circuiting Vientos you bring him up he is starting to get going here, and you sit him today, and the thing that makes it once again even more problematic is JD isn't playing the DH is available as well. Everytime I see him going they take him out whether it was last year with Vogelbach, or this year with Baty and who ever the heck is playing DH Today. This team isn't run very well and that starts at the top the GM from Milwaukee, open your eyes if this guy is so good at evaluating talent, How in the world did Vientos not come north for zack short when jd was down. and how in the world do you prefer baty over vientos, I mean we have seen baty fail again and again. Vientos will hit for alot more power, I think he will hit more period. I just don't get it. I don't get this sudden need to go to a 6 man rotation, another act of stupidity by the gm that leaves you with less guys in the bullpen, with a game that is played in the bullpen. Furthermore how in the world is Houser getting another start on tuesday, I thought this team woke up, you send Butto (The Vientos of pitching) down for this guy. In what world do you think Houser is better than Butto. Where is the evaluation here? This team only benefit is that last WC right now stinks so bad they are only 2 games back, the bad news is if they were playing better the player they counted on this team might be up 1-2 games in the wildcard, and to lose the first two games to the marlins a team you need to go 10-3 against, another disasterous moment for this team. between the player you count on being dreadful and dramatically underachiving and the stupid decision making from the top down with roster construction, to going to a 6 man which is a complete act of stupidity and will come back to bite them. And when Houser Blows up again that will become painfully obvious. All is just my opinion of course.
As I suspected Vientos sits for baty, what really irritates me even more is JD Martinez is sitting and marte is also sitting. One of the hottest guys (JD) on the team. If he needs a day in a game you desparately need can't get swept by the marlins. Which is absurd to begin with, but if the DH is Available why isn't vientos the DH. I just don't get how the mets handle this guy, I think they are trying to make him fail. If they have a lead please no Diaz can't take much more of him getting destroyed game after game with leads in the 9th inning.
Did I mention it is against the marlins.
Looks like your boys caught the Miami buzzsaw at the wrong time. I haven't seen todays Mets condensed game, but the game I saw a few days ago was pathetic. Defensive blunders, lack of concentration, zero energy and excitement. Losing is one thing- happens to the best teams. Playing consistently shabby baseball though, is inexcusable. I'd rather watch the A's than the Mets right now, but it's close.
Royals and the Brewers are excellent examples of the best in baseball: put a decent team on the field and the fans will turn up. The experience of being at the ballkpark sparks an energy that makes the night out a great time. I used to watch the Expos play in Jarry Park before they died in the cavernous tomb of Olympic Stadium. It was always a lot of fun- good crowds with no massive expectations of winning a world series....just a fun night at the park.
Royals ownership has been a tad cheap in recent years. Hopefully this season's moderate spending increase isn't just a play for public funding for a new stadium. KC fans deserve better.
Dreadful loss for the mets, I think this team is in a world of trouble. Thanks to diaz who sinks this team again and again and again. And while we are at it can lindor hit over 190?. devastating loss.
4 run lead and he blows it again. Could he ever pitch well. Ever? Did I mention it is against the marlins.
And now diaz is trying to implode again. Shaking my head. I don't know what is more a disaster him or lindor, these were suppose to be given of being good players. What in the world has happened to these guys.
Now vientos has two more hits allready can you do us all a favor mets and give him the job everyday, send down baty. But that won't happen. What will happen is if vientos has even 4 hits today, baty will start tomorrow, which makes no sense but little this organization does makes sense to me at this point in my opinion.
Yankee pitching has been outstanding---Matt Blake may be the team MVP ....the Martian got his 1st rehab hit the other nite off Domingo German
Gerrit Cole may have to go to the bullpen when he is reactivated with the "Martian" going to Scranton to get some regular playing time.
6 innings 14 K's for Gil today....
LOLOL...Borass would want 51%
Yhank you. He is a good kid. Royals had a good win. Ragans looked sharp
This could be the 2025 Yankees 50/50.
Hal Steinbrenner owns 50% of the team and Juan Soto owns the other 50%.
That's a gift. Clearly the action of a well-raised boy!
At this point there's a lot of teams very happy to have passed on Chapman, Monty and Snell. Maybe Boras actually scored big for them?
6 innings of shut out no-hit ball with 11 K's----hence the hype LOL

Have fun and good luck to the Royals.
Loved the 3rd period Hat Trick for the win. Now will the Bruins show up or not.
Get to watch my beloved Royals in person tonight. From my son's company's suite.
And lindor has been a disaster all year as well.
Rangers score 4 in the 3rd period to erase a 3-1 deficit and close out Carolina-----unreal
Another Blown Save by Diaz, even his out to get the last out, was a rocket. He doesn't look the same, not even close. I'm very worried.
Diaz Velocity is down to 95-96, it was 100-102 before he got hurt. And his command sucks. I'm worried. This guy doesn't look right to me.
This is a huge game for diaz and the mets. He can't blow this one.
Might need an injury to get him a spot LOL
For most games the Yankee starters are channeling their inner Gerrit Cole.
Yeah don't think soto would have a problem? Did ohtani have a problem? Soto is gonna get a ton hitting the open market, even if I was representing him. LOL.
"finish his career" sounds like a lotta dough---how much are dollars worth on Mars?
on another note Cy Schmidt is makin' $2M/per and isn't a FA until '28
Just ask Jordon Montgomery, Blake Snell, Cody Bellinger and Matt Chapman how reaching free agency let these Scott Boras clients use the market determine their value?
No wonder Juan Soto expressed an openness to in-season Yankees contract talks after Hal Steinbrenner said he would like to see Soto finish his career as a Yankee.

As expected Mark Vientos is on the bench. Every time the guy comes up and plays he gets a hit at first, they bench him the next day, and than they put him into some kind of slump with sporadic playing time. I just don't get it. Why is he being benched, shouldn't we ride the hot hand, maybe you might need to get a victory? Baty has been ice cold with no power. Lets sit Nimmo too, who cares the mets don't need to stop the bleeding here. Shaking my head.
Now what would be typical mets with Mark Vientos is he had a good night hitting despite the fact the mets stink last night. What a shocker. Can he play today. Typical mets plan with him is when he starts getting going they suddenly sit him for two days, it is like they are trying not to have this kid develop, I mean he didn't come north because of zack short, with leading the team in homers in the spring. And JD Martinez at that point wasn't even here from a DH Perspective. Bad enough this team is hard to watch, can they at least play vientos tonight, this is suppose to be an evaluation year, don't know how you can evaluate if you don't play them in my opinion.
and the Twins OF woes continue as LF Kirilloff butchers a fly ball by Torres for 2 runs....

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way i feel.
Chorus:
Oh, put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Look at me, i can be centerfield.
Well, i spent some time in the mudville nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know i took some lumps when the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell ty cobb and joe dimaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.
Chorus
Yeah! i got it, i got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know i think it's time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) it's gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Field of Dreams (1989)
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray.
It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."
