Vancouver, Canada August 16th 2011 Dynamotive Energy Systems Corporation (“Dynamotive”) announced it entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with Genting Bio-Oil Sdn Bhd (“GBO”) of Malaysia to explore cooperation for the development of pyrolysis oil market in the South East Asia Region.
Both companies have extensive experience in bio oil and in pyrolysis technology and by pooling the know-how acquired the companies aim to consolidate their leadership position in the sector.
The MOU is valid for an initial period of 6 months ending on January 31st 2012. The period can be extended by mutual agreement. The parties further agreed to work jointly with Dynamotive’s technical partners in pursuit of the MOU objectives.
In the initial phase of the cooperation, the parties aim to:
• Obtain knowledge of pyrolysis oil production market and its development potential in South East Asia.
• Ascertain the performance and commercial viability of Dynamotive Pyrolysis Technology, with respect to empty fruit bunch (EFB) a residue from palm oil production process as feedstock.
• Evaluate the possible business opportunities for the construction of a commercial biofuel plant, including biomass quantification, characterization and evaluation for use in pyrolysis process, biofuel production, supply chain and plant location.
• Evaluation of the collaborative business model between the parties.
Subject to successfully meeting the established objectives, the parties would enter into definitive commercial agreement.

News from ATW’s Eco-Aviation Today: Virgin Australia announced that it is partnering with Sydney-based Renewable Oil Corp., Vancouver-based Dynamotive Energy Systems Corp. and Australia’s Future Farm Industries Co-operative Research Centre (CRC) to develop a sustainable aviation biofuel that benefits the Australian farming community and the environment.
In a world first, the consortium will use innovative fast pyrolysis technology developed by Dynamotive to process mallees, a eucalypt tree that can be grown sustainably in many parts of Australia.
The partnership brings together companies with special expertise in growing, harvesting and processing feedstock into aviation fuel to support the development of a full scale commercial plant in Western Australia.
Virgin Australia CEO John Borghetti told ATW’s Eco-Aviation Today that “over the past few years Virgin Australia has been working with stakeholders across the industry to research and develop bio-derived renewable fuels that can be used to progressively replace conventional aviation fuels. We believe this new project has great potential given the results with the technology and the availability of this unique Australian feedstock.
“It is also particularly attractive to Virgin Australia because it aligns with our commitment to supporting the Australian economy and environment, and encouraging Australian innovation.”
Dynamotive has invested in excess of A$100 Million ($107 million) and more than 10 years of work in developing its fast pyrolysis technology from bench-scale through to commercial-scale plants in Canada.
The plants are equipped to make pyrolysis oil for fuels and also produce biochar, for soil improvement and carbon sequestration.
Dynamotive CEO Andrew Kingston said in a statement: “We are very excited to join Virgin Australia, Renewable Oil Corporation and the CRC in this initiative and provide our technology. We have a great opportunity to develop a sustainable industry in Western Australia capable of producing second generation fuels that do not require food sources and have positive effects in land and water management.”
Leading the commercialization of mallees is the CRC, a national R&D joint venture with experts in breeding, growing and harvesting these trees.
CRC CEO Kevin Goss said that its “research shows that mallees can be planted in balance with profitable crop and livestock production in Australia’s wheatbelt region. As well as becoming a source of biomass for renewable energy they offer protection from wind erosion, help to avoid dryland salinity and provide improved livestock shelter. They even provide habitat for native birds and mammals.”
More than 1,000 farmers have planted mallees in belts on their farms, mainly in Western Australia.
Later this year the CRC partnership will bring the world’s first hardwood biomass harvester to Western Australia for wide-scale demonstrations.
Renewable Oil, which identified the mallee tree as a promising biofuel feedstock, is Dynamotive’s Australian partner and develops biofuel projects in Australia.
The consortium is finalizing plans for a demonstration unit that will make bio-fuels for testing, certification and public trials. The demonstration unit is intended to be operational in 2012, followed by the construction of a commercial-scale plant, which could be operational as early as 2014.

Australia's number two carrier has partnered with Melbourne based renewable oil corporation Australia's No.2 carrier has partnered with Melbourne-based Renewable Oil Corporation and Canada's Dynamotive Energy Systems to develop the potential replacement for traditional aviation fuel. Dynamotive has spent about $100 million over the past 10 years developing technology to produce fuel from the mallee eucalypt tree, grown across Australia, at commercial-scale plants in Canada.

In Brisbane yesterday, Virgin founder Richard Branson said the development of cleaner sources of energy was a priority and "eucalyptus trees could be the fuel of the future".

Commenting on the unveiling of the Federal Government's carbon tax this weekend, Sir Richard also warned Australia against introducing a price on carbon without a global agreement. "Ideally it should be done on a global basis," he said.

Fuels derived from algae and waste foods are already being trialled and are considered by many commentators to be more sustainable than fuels produced from dedicated energy crops that may compete with food crops and could lead to shortages of key staples.

Mallees are thought to be a good feedstock for biofuel production because they offer protection from wind erosion, help to avoid dry land salinity, and provide habitat for native birds and mammals, as well as offering a source of biomass.

The going-forward plan builds on Dynamotive’s competitive advantage and position in the green fuels market place. Dynamotive is one of only two companies with the demonstrated capacity to build multi-hundred ton/day biomass fast pyrolysis plants and is alone in having operational commercial plants in this size range; it has technology that has been proven at commercial scale and it retains robust technical capabilities.

Dynamotive has developed a product mix that provides multiple outlets for its plant outputs and a leading edge R&D program that has clear path to show the technology is mobile fuel chemical extraction capable.

In the mobile biofuel sector, Dynamotive has developed a proprietary research path as described above and is well positioned to service other processes. Dynamotive’s products can also be an input to emerging gasification and syngas technologies for the production of mobile fuels as has been proven in gasification tests on BioOil Plus™ conducted in Germany.

Marketing / Licensing

Management’s focus is that of supporting development efforts by the Company’s partners, having established a project pipeline and knowledge base, the Company will prioritize third party developments.

The Company has agreements in place with Renewable Oil Corporation (ROC) in Australia and with Prius Developments SA in Switzerland. Under the marketing agreements in place and being negotiated, ROC will take the responsibility for development in Australia, New Zealand and Asean Countries.

ROC is currently developing projects in Australia and is supporting third party projects in Indonesia and Malaysia amongst others.

Prius Developments SA currently represents Dynamotive in France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Denmark.

Prius Developments SA is developing projects in Switzerland with a first project currently at the financing stage and is supporting project inquiries by third parties in the energy and biomass sector in its territories.

Based on the same principle of development, Dynamotive is in negotiations with parties for developments in US (Arkansas next lead project), Latin America (Argentina which currently is at financing stage) and China with the objective to have third party development structures in place in 2010 inn these markets.

Management expects to complete the licensing of two new plants within 12 months; additional projects have reached financing stages in 3 different jurisdictions, and the Company is further supporting development efforts by its agents and joint venture parties in other regions. The Company has seen increased interest in its technology in the past 6 months which can be attributed to increase in oil prices and implementation of mandates in the use of renewable fuels and the Company’s success in product development as well as in increased sales.

Project Development and Technical Support

Dynamotive renewed its strategic alliance with Tecna SA. Through this agreement, the Company provides engineering and technical support to its marketing partners and licensors providing clients access to world class engineering capabilities. Tecna will act as Owner Engineer and technical advisor. This agreement allows Dynamotive to concentrate its resources on Technology and Product R&D while ensuring full technical support for its operations worldwide.

Technology

Dynamotive’s West Lorne Plant is operating consistently and at progressively higher output levels, operating consistently at 70% to 90% capacity. The product output is of consistent quality too. Shipments are being made regularly to clients. Sales are expected to progressively increase as the market and clients get further acquainted with the products.

The plant engineering is sound and is replicable. Multiple plant demonstrations have been made to energy, engineering and biomass firms in support of marketing efforts. This trend is continuing to grow with further diligence visits planned through year end.

Product

Dynamotive has developed multiple product lines, BioOil, BioOil Plus, BioOil Fuel Oil Blends and Upgraded BioOil A and B as well as Char. Each product meets specific requirements.


•BioOil: Heat and Power application, Chemical base.
•BioOil Plus: Gasification – Syngas.
•BioOil Fuel Oil Blend: 5% and 10% blend – displacement of Fuel Oil / Bunker in existing installations.
•Upgraded BioOil A and B: Mobile Fuel Applications.

Dynamotive is today selling BioOil and Char in the market place; the Company sees a growing trend in demand for its base products (BioOil and Char) and has started marketing BioOil Fuel Oil blends.

Sales targets from its West Lorne plant are $ 1.5 million for the next 12 months. This is based on current contracts being extended and new contracts for bio fuel blends, and char being completed.

Research & Development

Research and development differentiates Dynamotive, our research and technical teams are experienced and are comprised of experts in the field. Our product research team has been pivotal in developing a BioOil that is stable and that can be stored and transported with confidence. Dynamotive BioOil has been stored for periods exceeding two years and successfully combusted. The capacity to store and transport BioOil is key in our commercial strategy, as it allows for flexible configuration of plants and the opportunity to ship product worldwide. Dynamotive has shipped BioOil from Canada to Europe, Asia, Australia, the US and Latin America.

Our team has further developed BioOil Plus as a means of increasing energy density and has this fuel used in thermal applications as well as an input to gasification processes. Dynamotive BioOil Plus was successfully tested for the production of syngas. This product provides the following advantage over direct gasification of biomass, higher energy density 14/1 vs. raw biomass and ease of use at the gasification line. BioOil Fuel Oil Blends: Dynamotive’s research team has demonstrated 5 and 10% blends of BioOil and Fuel Oil. This product is intended to be utilized in stationary applications and rail and maritime uses. The Company aims to position the product as a blending agent undercutting palm oil, biodiesel and ethanol in this market. This product allows for partial displacement of hydrocarbon fuels without the need for dedicated combustion systems.

Mobile Fuels: Dynamotive’s research team has developed a two stage process to upgrade BioOil to mobile fuels. The process developed by Dr. Radlein is unique and has been replicated and been steadily improved over the past year. The process is described on our website under the BINGO heading. The process has significant advantages over other upgrading processes having higher end product yields from biomass than competing processes and is projected to be financially viable at significantly lower throughputs than competing technologies. Dynamotive continues its development program and has received support from leading energy firms in the analytical aspect of this product.

Char: Dynamotive has pioneered work on the development of agricultural applications for BioChar, Dynamotive’s CQuest™ BioChar is currently being used on a number of locations in the US and in Canada. Further, the Company has supported and continues to support the US Department of Agriculture BioChar program, results of which are expected for first year crops at the end of 2009.

Financial / Compliance / Communications

Although the Company’s financial position in part due to the economic downturn been adversely affected, the Company has been able to continue operations through loans by Directors and Management and equity contributions by strategic partners.

The Company has taken aggressive steps to reduce non essential activities and costs, as a result of this, cost of operations have been reduced by approximately 50% on a year-to-year basis. Total cost of operations for Q4 2009 through Q3 2010 is expected to be $ 4.5 million +/- 10% including West Lorne plant operations. In the same period, the Company projects sales for West Lorne – product and technical demonstrations should reach $ 1.5 million, being a net contributor to offset Corporate expenses. Dynamotive projects that it can complete two licenses in the period further narrowing the need for outside financing. The Company today has a working capital deficit that it aims to cover through longer term loans by management and additional equity raises.

Debt management: The Company has $ 36 million in the carrying value of assets and total debt of $ 11.5 million (including provisions, contingent liabilities and loans by Directors and Management ) the Company also presented a plan for the re-allocation of assets including the potential sale of one of its plants. Through the potential sale of Guelph currently under negotiation, the Company believes it should be able to meet its creditor obligations.

First year results indicated an overall increase in crop yield that ranged from 6% to 17% in soils where biochar was applied compared to control plots. Brief Overview of Study

CQuest(TM) Biochar was supplied from Dynamotive's West Lorne Facility and applied on May 28, 2008 to a test plot on a farm in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec, Canada. Third party participants included, Mr. Aime Rivard, a farm owner and agriculture producer. Both companies would like to thank him for his cooperation and support. In total, 3,500 lbs/acre (3,924 kg/hectare) of biochar was applied to the test plot.

Key findings of the study comparing biochar vs. control plots:


- Overall higher crop yield with biochar (+6% to +17%)

- Longer root length with biochar (+68%)

- Lower plant leaf temperatures with biochar (-22%)

- Lower soil nutrient depletion rate during growing season with (-44%)
biochar, e.g. phosphorus



Further Studies:

Dynamotive continues its biochar research in Canada and is committed to further support BlueLeaf Inc. in its program. In the US the Company is supporting several different research efforts including a study by the Department of Agriculture - ARS in regard to quantifying the effects of amending soils with CQuest(TM) Biochar on crop productivity, soil quality, carbon sequestration and water quality. "The upgrading process addresses several critical issues in the development of sustainable fuels from biomass.

1) Food versus Fuel: The company converts residual biomass from agricultural and forestry operations and/or dedicated nonfood crops through a thermochemical process into BioOil and Biochar. BioOil and Biochar plants can coexist with existing forestry and agricultural facilities, providing an additional benefit to operations.

2) Yield: Dynamotive’s pyrolysis process converts roughly 85 percent of the total biomass feed into useful solid (char) and liquid (BioOil) fuels. The balance is utilized to provide energy to the process.

3) Yields of Diesel/Gasoline from BioOil through the stage 2 upgrading process of 37 percent have been achieved at bench-scale. The net overall yield from whole biomass to diesel/gasoline is approximately 25 percent, which to our knowledge is the highest ever reported.

4) Scale: Dynamotive’s process is projected to be economically viable at one-seventh to one-fifteenth scale of competing technologies currently known or under development. It is projected that a plant processing under 70,000 metric tons of biomass a year would produce approximately 4,500,000 gallons of renewable gas-oil at under $2 per gallon. The scale factor enables distributed production i.e. plants can be developed in diverse locations creating sustainable “green” jobs, while being compatible with agro and forestry operations.

5) Flexibility: the two stage process developed by the company also allows for the opportunity to further upgrade the stage 1 renewable gasoil into diesel and gasoline fuels at a centralized facility or the development of a fully integrated plant if production logistics and economics merit it. This provides for flexibility in development and application.

6) Investment: Given the plant scale, the investment required is comparatively low. Approximately $33 million will deliver a 15-year production capacity of approximately 67 million gallons of renewable transportation-grade hydrocarbon fuels. This is a fraction of the capital cost per gallon and per plant required by proposed competing technologies.

7) Time to market; Dynamotive’s pyrolysis platform is available today, with plants of 130 and 200 metric tons per day completed. The upgrading process uses conventional hydrotreatment equipment and process conditions allowing for rapid implementation at pilot and commercial scale.

8) Construction of an upgrading pilot plant is planned for later this year."

LOL I could not even type much a year and half ago. Saw this field and am at it 16 hours a day sometimes and still excited. I live, eat and breath it. I just love the tech and want us off foreign oil. When we start making fuels we create jobs and money in the places we live. Great for all. A Sustainable Economic Model

Pyrolysis plant to turn biomass into BioOil in China

Vancouver, British Columbia-based Dynamotive Energy Systems Corp. has entered into a commercial agreement to support the development of a pyrolysis plant in China. The plant will use Dynamotive Energy Systems’ proprietary technology, which uses medium temperatures and oxygen-less conditions to turn dry waste cellulosic biomass into BioOil used for power and heat generation. BioOil can be further converted into vehicle fuels and chemicals.

The plant, which will be located in the Henan province of China, will be developed by Hubei Xinda Bio-oil Technology Co. Ltd. in cooperation with Great China New Energy Technology Services Co. Ltd., which is the exclusive licensor of Dynamotive Energy Systems’ technology in China.

Under the agreement, Dynamotive Energy Systems will provide process, engineering and technical support for the development of the facility for a fee of $2.3 million. Hubei Xinda will be responsible for construction. Dynamotive’s agreement with Great China New Energy Technology Services also allows Dynamotive Energy Systems to own up to a 20 percent interest in the venture.

The agreement with Great China New Energy Technology Services and Hubei Xinda is the first in a number of potential agreements that are expected to be done in the region. According to a press release issued by Dynamotive Energy Systems, Great China New Energy Technology Services is obligated to develop a minimum of 15 plants in the region within five years. Minimum licensing fees have been set at $1 million per developed plant.

Dynamotive Energy Systems Corporation (OTCBB:DYMTF), a leader in cellulose based fuels technology, announced today it restarted operations at its West Lorne, Ontario facility following completion of its upgrade.
The plant had undergone an upgrade process to increase its nominal capacity to 130 tonnes of biomass input per day, a 30 % increase in capacity, and to incorporate technological advances that were developed and implemented in Dynamotive's 200 tonne per day capacity plant located in Guelph, Ontario . The plant incorporates a 2.5 megawatt electric cogeneration package developed by Magellan Aerospace.
The renewable biofuel produced at the plant, known as BioOil, is made from waste wood and formulated for non-transportation industrial applications. Fuel exports, as well as power generation, from the plant are expected to start in March. Output of the plant is contracted to power generation and specialty applications with some production being reserved by Dynamotive for market development purposes.

This company is much further along vs USSE...IMO...

- both are pyrolysis process of biomass
- This company reports vs USSE too afraid (why?)to report.
- This company has more cash and funding, strong partners... No real company dare near USSE
- This company has more manufacturing
- This company using other types of biomass... not our food (or so called spoiled food)
- This company has validated it's technology and USSE still is very questionable.
- They both lose alot of money!! assuming USSE is spending with the move and all, no production to speak of.
- This company has much stronger historical success.(Do what they say! Not announce and announce and never perform)
- USSE says there product contains less water or some claim of such.

just a few off the top of my head.. IMO, these companies may always have a niche fit, but will not be any big solution to alternatives.

DYMTF: First Commercial Plant in U.S. to Produce Liquid Biofuel from Wood Residues to be Built by Dynamotive in Missouri
Dynamotive Energy Systems Corporation (OTCBB:DYMTF), and its subsidiary, Dynamotive USA, Inc., announced its plans to invest US$24 million to build the first fully commercial industrial biofuel plant in the U.S. The facility will be located on a site in Willow Springs, approximately 180 miles southwest of St. Louis. The site secured was chosen for its ready access to rail transport, proximity to biomass and the potential to host up to four additional facilities.

The modular, second-generation biomass-to-biofuel plant is designed to use Dynamotive’s proprietary “fast pyrolysis” process to convert 200 tons per day of wood by-products and residues from nearby sawmills into 34,000 gallons per day of BioOil®. Commercial terms have been agreed and signed with local feedstock providers to supply the plant.

As a result, other, similar projects in the state are currently under review.
