A little update from Walker200 concerning Diamyd Medical.
The company is mainly in the fields of painkillers.
The most important one for the moment is the phase2 trial of
the gene-carried Enkephaline linked to a herpes-simplex-virus.
The virus itself of cource deactivated.I shall not go to far here
in giving an explanation since I have mostly accomplished that on
the other posts.The recruiting of 32 patients started in January
2011 and they have had some problems recruiting the last ones for the trial.Thats a phenomenom that is very common when it comes to trials no matter what the trial is about.It could be diabetes,cancer,inflammatories etc.But the word now has it that the
trial is fully recruited.So if the last patients have had their doses just newly we can look forward to a closing of the trial
sometimes in May or early June.Then they have to sift through all
the material and after that we have the very results in front of our eyes.If phase 2 shows the same significant results that were
done in phase 1 we do have a commercial drug.Why one more painkiller you ask yourself,when there already are so many out there.The answer is that NP2 gives great painrelief where other painkillers have shown no effect whatsoever.The patients in these trials have a very high degree of pain.You can say unbearable torturelike pain.They have been on every known painkillers there are-without effect.Thats one reason to take a good look at NP2.From another angle the drug is very easy to administrate.One dose every 28th day is enough to keep the patient from pain.Morphine,Fentanyl most often have to be distributed several times per 24 hour.So NP2
is much more cost effective for the patient and not the least our
communities and insurance-companies who pays for their treatment.
The third reason,and a very strong reason,is that NP2 doesnt show
any negative sideeffects.Fourth:NP2 is an opioid,but since we already have it in our very own bodies it doesnt produce the
narcotic demand that other opioids does.
NP2 is 100 % owned by Diamyd Medical.They have a world license 25
years ahead.This gene therapy have been very much discussed in the
academic world and other Biotech companies and the big Pharmas are
following the companies research intensly.Diamyd have got 28 141 257 outstanding shares.The company has cash 410 mill Swedish kronor wich in dollar denomination is roughly 60 mill dollars.
The companies market cap is 263 mill Swedish kronor and in dollar that is roughly 39 mill dollars.The company is undervalued as I see it.The explanation for that is that they had a diabetes-project together with Johnson & Johnson that failed and the stock
fell over one night with 90 %.So they who managed to not be in the stock when the diabetes project fell now have an excellent entry point to one of the most promising biotech-missions in the world.But you can only make money if you put them on the table.....Good luck to you

Diamyd Medical has released the results of NP2 Enkephalin Phase I dose-escalation clinical trial in patients suffering from chronic pain due to malignancy.


The trial was designed to investigate the safety of three different doses of NP2 Enkephalin and also to investigate efficacy measurements of pain relief in subjects suffering from chronic pain due to malignancy.

In the trial, substantial and sustained pain relief was noted in the middle and high dose cohorts in both pain measurement methods used in the study; the numeric rating scale (NRS) which is a scale of 0-10 and the Short Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) which is a quantitative compilation of 15 descriptive pain measures.

However, in the highest dose cohort, a ~80% decrease in the combined average weekly NRS scores was observed over the first four weeks.

Results are to be confirmed in an ongoing Phase II, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled clinical trial of NP2 Enkephalin in 32 patients with severe intractable cancer pain at approximately 10 clinical sites in the US.

The pain portfolio, includes the early clinical-stage drug NP2 enkephalin along with preclinical candidates NG2 GAD and NE2 endomorphin. Positive data from a Phase I trial with NP2 enkephalin were reported earlier.
“We have decided to divide our operations in order to highlight our pain portfolio,” comments Elisabeth Lindner, president and CEO. “We see a great medical need and an opportunity to quickly demonstrate the value of our pain portfolio by continuing our cancer pain program with N22 enkephalin.”

Diamyd’s pain portfolio is based on its NTDDS (nerve-targeting drug delivery system) gene therapy platform, which is designed to deliver the gene for a therapeutic molecule directly to nerve cells, bypassing the bloodstream. Administered by intradermal injection, the vector is delivered into the peripheral nervous system to reside just outside the spinal cord, where the delivered gene is expressed to block pain signals to the brain, Diamyd explains.

The same principal is being applied for the potential treatment of glioma by using the NTDDS technology to deliver cell-killing substances directly to the tumor. Research on the NTDDS platform is carried out primarily at the firm's U.S. facility.

Diamyd’s existing NTDDS products include candidates NP2 enkephalin, NG2 GAD, and NE2 endomorphin for treating chronic pain and NC3 for the treatment of brain cancer.

Earlier the firm reported positive data from a dose-ranging, Phase I trial evaluating NP2 enkephalin in the treatment of chronic cancer pain. Study data showed the treatment resulted in substantial and sustained reductions in pain scores among patients receiving the middle and high doses of NP2. A Phase II study is now running
