"Rockwell-Collins ... bought by United Technologies at $140 a share. This deal will be paid in cash and stock. COL's shareholders will receive $93.33 in cash and the remainder in UTX stock. This aspect makes the deal interesting because the stock price is capped at a 7.5% collar on UTX collar, at a price of $115.69."

It's been rumored for awhile. Pretty clear something was up, and COL largely confirmed it a week or so ago. However, price and payment composition was unknown. Merger will drag out to 2018 pending regulatory approval and hammering out details.

On the plus side, there could be other bidders, or a higher UTX bid... or the merger might fall apart and COL stock fall.

This is one of today's top 5 financial stories. News is now built into the market price.

COL "to be sold to United Technologies in $23 billion deal"

"A swift corporate courtship culminated Monday in Rockwell Collins Inc. agreeing to be sold to United Technologies Corp. for $23 billion in cash and stock — one of the largest deals in aerospace industry history.

Industry and analyst speculation surfaced about a potential megadeal Aug. 5. With United, based in Farmington, Conn., agreeing to take over $7 billion in Rockwell debt, the total value of the purchase is $30 billion.

The deal, which requires regulatory and shareholder approval, is projected to close in the third quarter of 2018."

My Rockwell Collins (COL) is soaring in after hours trading. Rumors say that United Technologies (UTX) is interested in it.

"Rockwell Collins rose to a record $119 at the close of trading Friday in New York, before news of the potential deal. The shares climbed as much as 12 percent more in late trading. United Technologies, with a market value of $97 billion, was little changed."

Soaring. $98 is record high. But WAY overdue for a dividend increase. Q payout went from .24 to .30 in early 2012.... current 1.20% yield is puny in relation to COL earnings and fiscal strength.

Share price has been among my better performers in recent years, but it's one of my worst stocks in dividend growth since the bottom of The Great Recession.
