$241,000 stripclub tab finally settled

Infamous New York stripclub 'Scores' says a lawsuit stemming from the huge bill a former telecom exec racked up there has been resolved.

NEW YORK (CNN) - The lawsuit over a former communications executive's $241,000 tab racked up at Scores nightclub has been settled, an attorney for Scores said Wednesday.

The terms of the settlement involving Scores, American Express, Savvis Inc., and former Savvis chief executive Robert McCormick are confidential, said Donald David, who represented Scores in the settlement talks.

"All the parties involved -- except for Savvis -- have agreed to say they resolved the suit 'amicably,'" said David. "Savvis plans to send out a more extensive statement on their own."

McCormick, of Clayton, Mo., resigned from Savvis (Research) Communications Corp. after an investigation into the $241,000, which was charged to his corporate American Express card after an alleged wild night at the Manhattan strip club on Oct. 22, 2003.

Savvis and McCormick refused to pay. In court documents, McCormick said he spent up to $20,000 at Scores that night. American Express then sued Scores, Savvis and McCormick.

The settlement was reached in the past few weeks, David said.

American Express said only that all parties resolved their differences.

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2005--SAVVIS, Inc. (NASDAQ:SVVS - News), a leading global IT utility services provider, today announced that its Audit Committee is conducting a full investigation into matters relating to a lawsuit brought by American Express Travel Related Services, Inc. against SAVVIS and its Chief Executive Officer, Robert A. McCormick, for nonpayment of charges on a corporate credit card issued to Mr. McCormick.

The company also reiterated that Mr. McCormick did not submit the charges in question to SAVVIS for reimbursement and that SAVVIS has not made any payment to American Express related to the charges.

Pending completion of the investigation, Mr. McCormick has been placed on an unpaid leave of absence effective October 24, 2005. Jack M. Finlayson, the company's President & Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer.

To assist in its investigation and to expedite a comprehensive review, the Audit Committee has engaged Sullivan & Cromwell LLP as independent counsel. Upon completion of its investigation, the Audit Committee will recommend appropriate action to the Board of Directors. SAVVIS officials do not intend to comment further on this matter pending completion of the investigation.

Exec Sued Over $241,000 Strip Club Tab

OCTOBER 21--A Missouri businessman who claims that a $241,000 bill for a night of lap dance luxuriating at Manhattan's leading strip club is a fraud is being sued by American Express for refusing to pay the debt. According to a lawsuit filed Wednesday in New York State Supreme Court (a copy of which you'll find below), Amex contends that Robert McCormick, 40, and three guests ran up the tab during a visit to the Scores nightclub in October 2003. McCormick, the chairman and chief executive of Savvis Communications, a publicly held technology firm, has refused to pay the strip club tab, which was placed on his corporate credit card. McCormick and his firm have claimed that only about $20,000 of the charges are legitimate. In its lawsuit, Amex alleges that McCormick, who is pictured at right, signed credit card slips authorizing the six-figure bill, though the complaint does not detail how the quartet actually ran up the monumental tab. As we have previously reported, Scores is not unfamiliar with such claims of rampant overcharging.
