I've been staying out of the gizzards and in the higher priced PD plays this week -- seems to work well currently, especially during earnings week. Volume today in the markets may portend a bit more stability soon, so perhaps gizzards will return to the fold next week.

Today, I flipped NSIT for 2.5 and exited the remaining original 1/2 position for 4. I had planned to hold for a bit higher target, but remembered Frank's maxim and booked profits. Also got 3.5 points out of DPMI; again was looking for a bit higher target for the PD play, but that last 1/2 hour looked way too nasty and my gut said go. I am still in DROOY as an insurance play for the w/e. Trading accounts did well this week, long term accounts really fell.

POG did well, but the stocks are lagging now, so will watch for a bit more pattern setup before entering.

Hope you've lots of fish to clean, the boys and you had fun, and that we can take out 330 soon. What price do you see for silver -- I'm thinking 5.1-ish, but that's without any studies.

Don't know 'bout SI -- just tried to check after market closed and get zip. Hope it's temporary, but if not, we'll see if the gang gathers here I guess. EDIT: Seems to be back now.

What a day, no? I have got to get back to shorting strategies. Sold CBST for .5 this AM, would have been a good short.

PD of the day, PNC - would feel great about getting nearly 7 points from it on the bounce, I don't generally play NYSE issues, but I held several K of PNC prior to today so it's always on a screen in QT. I can be a bit sanguine about the drop as those LT shares are what remain from a purchase of 5000 MIDL back in fall of 1990 (other shares I've sold over the years), PNC took over MIDL in a buyout of 2.1 for 1 and my cost basis in those PNC shares is well under $5. LT net on the PNC, I'm well in the black, but, my equity curve for that account certainly took a hit today.

PD's have otherwise been working well - bought NSIT today at 12, sold 1/2 the position for +1.5. Sold the $21 SBUX this for .55, but still in other position and DROOY (testing my patience). QFAB another PD I didn't play started back today - might be more of a shoe drop really. Yesterday NOVN was a great PD - tho I didn't play it either - today it dropped, a characteristic of PDs that have a strong bounce on day 1 - Shorting PNC might be a possibility tomorrow. BAX would have been a good day 1 PD reverse, and possible short tomorrow.

Mark- would love to hear your technical thoughts on ELN.. from an FA respect, the price of the stock reflects the uncertaintity of accounting issues and debt.. but on the other hand, they have 12 drugs selling and research worth a few hundred million.. Id say this could provide some nice upside bounce..

What does "in date" look like? Yahoo and Raging Fool are newer then SI and both of them stink bad. SI classic version is my interface of choice but it's a losing portion of a dot bomb that could be cut loose at any time. IHub seems like a very good interface for serious traders. Having the ability to search a thread or the whole site for key words is a much needed feature for me. If I do a scan and come up with a watch list for trades I like to go to the TATrader thread and do a search on the ticker. I can then read the messages that others have posted about the stock. Several times I have then seen a post that makes me either take the stock off my watch list or move it to the top. I don't have time to read every post and sure don't have time to memorize them...but I can search when interested and find out more in five minutes then I ever could on Yahooligan or Raging Fool.

Yep. Personally, I find that stark white background absolutely brutal on these old eyes!

The yellow one you use is pretty good. Nice and cheery. Just wish you'd come over to the dark side and make your menu items look like buttons.

Hey Mark and all, if you go up to tools and click on "My Interface", at the bottom of that page their are some presets that set color schemes on your IHub browser window. The one called "Wine" is great! It is very nice on the eyes. I never thought I would say this...but I'm starting to like this format better than SI. I don't know how Yahoo and Raging Fool stay in business with their sorry attempt at message boards. I guess "free" is why.

Tell us what you are looking at today.....I am playing arct and Retk for the bounce...ITRU will go to 4 oneday soon...SLGLF keeps moving to our 60 cent target...the gizzards are back on track once again..

Keep an eye on idev...Target is 2.00 there....need to break 1.20 with power for confirmation of move...

Well, we now are really feeling the bite of the bear. And I'm thoroughly sick of CNBC's Maria B. and her shadenfreude reporting of the continuing drop.

For my part I flipped SBUX again for +.45, and RETK for .25. Also sold HGMCY for +1.25 this am and rebought for .5 discount. Still holding DROOY, SSRI and PAAS.

Not much to give one any confidence in the markets. Will we will see 8700 DOW tomorrow? If no one is interested in buying, the lows of last Sep look likely to be tested. Getting harder to earn a paycheck without being short, which I keep refraining from.

Well not much from the trading patterns watchlist working except for the silver plays (SSRI, PAAS) - spot silver moved nicely yesterday and is holding $5 today.

POG backed off some this am and I sold HGMCY for +1.25 -- then rebought for a .5 discount. Still in DROOY. Reentered SBUX @ 22.7 and bought RETK @ 6.26 as a PD.

AVNX I'd like to see break 2 on volume. ACRT has some good potential, let's see how it handles' today's markets.

I looked at your picks...I like avnx on a potential move at 2.50...and will watch retk as potential drop shoe...want to see if 6.25 holds today..If it does, potential bounce target of 9.00..(with warning to get out as soon as momentum ceases, regardless if target is hit....

Hi Mark,

Well it's a bit late to give a detailed breakdown of the TA on each of these, but here's a watch list of possibles for tomorrow. However, like most of my picks, the chart on each will give a pretty good idea of the entry and why. DRIV, DOCC, PTEC, ITRU, NSANY, AVNX, SSRI, PAAS, HGMCY and DROOY. I have positions in the last 4.

For pressure drops check RETK, CAMZ, IONA AND NOVN.

Set your stops, and good trading to all.

This site is an alternate home for refugees from the SI TATRADER GIZZARD STUDY thread. Others are of course welcome. The following is background for all: What is a Gizzard Stock? 1) A gizzard is a stock that is 12.00 or lower 2) A gizzard is a stock that has been out of favor for some time 3) A gizzard has had some 1 million share days in its recent past... 4) A gizzard has some respectable institutional ownership 5) A gizzard has a recognizeable pattern (Cup and handle,double bottom, rounded bottom, ascending triangle, descending triangle, symmetrical triangle,head and shoulder bottom, rectangle, etc...) 6) A gizzard has given us some reason to look at it, a volume level that has increased dramatically in the last 10 days, a 180, a MACD zero line crossover, moving average crossover, 50 or 21 day expansion pivot, 1,2,3,4, HV Thrust,ADX starting to move up from 13-15 area toward 20, etc.. 7) A gizzard is a stock we daytrade with stops, or hold as a position trade for no more than 2-3 days... 8) A gizzard is a stock we have already plotted our price targets on, and figured out where our stops will go, before we enter it... 9) A gizzard is a stock we find ourselves through scans, or through other gizzard traders that run their own scans..It is not usually a newsletter recommendation... 10) A gizzard is a stock that we look to take home 10% to 200% within 3 days time.... The Gizzard Trader: 1) Always wants to increase knowledge by reading and learning from others 2) Looks for stocks that are under 12.00.. 3) Uses his or her own scans to find stocks in this price level.. 4) Sets stops to protect losses and keep them small 5) Uses primarily TA for all trading decisions 6) Looks for Gizzards that usually have 80 million shares outstanding or less. 7) The gizzard trader is looking for stock patterns..(Ascending triangles, double bottoms, symmetrical triangles, rectangles, cup and handles) 8) A gizzard trader looks for unusual levels of volume, particularly where there is little price movement after a long basing pattern... 9) A gizzard trader is determined he or she will become not just a good trader but a great trader.... 10) A gizzard trader is familiar with 2-5 stocks on a regular basis where the trading pattern of the stock is fully understood....
