With Trimble's recent run up (the chart oddly enough matches QTM's, Why? No clue...) with no pull-back and uncertainty in the economy and no dividend to be had here, this is ripe for shorting.

Trimble is one of the best companies to invest in from quarter to quarter. One of the easiest short term gain picks and short term short picks. It never really trades sideways, it is either building up or pulling back. They don't offer a dividend so it will always have a max value and it trades pretty much along side its exchange.

Trimble Enters into Definitive Agreement to Acquire TopoSys to Extend Its Geospatial Solutions Business





SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sep. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire TopoSys GmbH of Biberach an der Riss, Germany in an all-cash transaction. TopoSys is a leading provider of aerial data collection systems comprised of LiDAR and metric cameras. Closing of the transaction, anticipated to occur in the fourth quarter, is subject to certain closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

TopoSys aerial data collection systems are used by service companies collecting geospatial data by LiDAR and photogrammetry as well as state authorities and municipalities involved in supplying geospatial information. Typical applications include mapping for coastline protection, floodplain control, city modeling, opencast pit mining, and corridor mapping.

Over the last two years, TopoSys has evolved from an aerial services business to an aerial data collection systems developer and integrator. The acquisition of TopoSys extends Trimble's portfolio of engineering scale mapping and asset management solutions. TopoSys will also provide a European footprint to support Trimble's aerial mapping customers, who face short flight seasons, with regional support.

The new reference receiver is versatile and can support the most demanding applications for the earth science community and for the surveying, construction, mapping or agricultural industries.

The NetR8 reference station can operate as a campaign receiver for post processing, as a Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) receiver, portable base station for Real Time Kinematic (RTK) applications or as a scientific reference station collecting information for specialized studies.

Saab and Trimble to Integrate Solutions for DGPS Transmissions from Automatic Identification System Coast Stations

The announcement was made today at the ION GNSS 2008 Conference.

Saab and Trimble will integrate their marine navigation solutions to deliver DGPS error correction messages to ships at sea through automatic identification system (AIS) coast stations and networks. The DGPS messages transmitted on AIS frequencies will augment the existing marine DGPS broadcasts from coastal beacon stations.

The two companies are collaborating to develop interfaces connecting Saab's AIS and Vessel Tracking Management & Information System (VTMIS) with Trimble DGPS reference station and integrity monitoring software. Fund manager favors Priceline, Trimble Navigation, Nintendo

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- As the technology sector confronts the global economic slowdown, mutual-fund manager Ian Warmerdam is focusing on firms tapping new growth areas.

Warmerdam is also a fan of Trimble Navigation Ltd. (TRMB:Trimble Navigation Ltd (TRMB 31.52, -1.60, -4.8%) , a maker of global positioning system technology, whose shares have jumped 19% since the beginning of the year.

While GPS sales have taken off among consumers, Warmerdam said the need for real-time navigational technology is also great and still relatively unmet in the commercial and agricultural sectors.

"They are involved in engineering and construction surveying equipment, and have large end-markets like infrastructure and in the building of roads," Warmerdam said. "These markets tend to be underrepresented when it comes to GPS. The technology is still fairly new to some extent. But it's more and more of a necessity. ... There's plenty of room for growth left."
He cited the benefit of GPS technology in agriculture, where it can be used to enhance yield and minimize waste by more accurately deploying and operating farming equipment.
Like other sectors, Trimble is vulnerable to the global slowdown, which has led to a slump in construction and infrastructure projects. However, Warmerdam added, agriculture remains "a big area of growth." "The acceleration in agriculture has more than offset any slowdown in construction," he added.
In Friday's session, shares of Trimble Navigation lost 53 cents to close at $36.04.

Croatia Taps Trimble to Provide a Nationwide GNSS Infrastructure Network

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 29, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Trimble (Nasdaq: TRMB) announced today it has been chosen by the Central Financing and Contracting Unit (CFCU) at the Croatian Ministry of Finance to supply 31 Trimble(R) NetR5(TM) Reference Stations, 31 Trimble Zephyr Geodetic(TM) antennas and Trimble VRS(TM) (Virtual Reference Station) technology to establish a nationwide Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) infrastructure network for the Republic of Croatia called the CROatian POsitioning System (CROPOS). The Trimble VRS network will provide a geospatial infrastructure for surveying, engineering and geographic information system (GIS) professionals that enables high-accuracy, real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS positioning without the need for separate base stations, significantly increasing efficiency and productivity.

The CROPOS network, the largest and only nation-wide network in the country, will be operated by the State Geodetic Administration of the Republic of Croatia - Drzavna Geodetska Uprava (DGU). The turn-key VRS solution by Trimble includes installation of the control center as well as third-party components including communications and IT devices. Croatia plans to use CROPOS as the basis for the country's new geodetic reference coordinate system.
