To repeat in part what was written:
"I know that at least one CE manufacturer using the e.Digital reference design has multi-codec support (i.e. the Merit MP2000 QDX/MP3 player made by Maycom Co. of Korea). For information on other manufacturers and models, it's best to consult with e.Digital and PortalPlayer as they are directly involved in the licensing of their packaged solutions to the CE companies. They are better positioned to tell you which manufacturers are making the (hardware)players, which models, and when they're being released. Many will be on the market in 2001 and many more in 2002 and beyond.
The specific player referenced (the one EDIG made for them) in one of our press releases was a limited edition specifically for the purpose of demonstration of the underlying QDX technology. These have been used in presentations with record labels, CE manufacturers, and to showcase the technology for press and industry analysts."
