Board header Gif provided by Gary (ONEBGG) Thanks Gary.

Welcome! This is the place for Acronym's & Computer Lingo, we hope you find this information helpful, and we appreciate any that you may wish to add to our growing list.

The Ibox / Board Header currently consists of four sections:

The first section lists stock trading specific acronyms.

The second section discusses trading terms that are not necessarily acronyms, and goes into a lot more detail, including links to more information.

The third section lists internet wide acronyms, and other fun acronyms, that you might see from time to time, but most have nothing to do with trading.

The fourth section lists Ihub (InvestorsHub) specific acronyms, verbiage and terminology.

Level I
This type of quote is most often published on the net as a "real-time quote." Level I consists of real-time bid/ask quotes for securities trading on the Nasdaq stock market. This type of access does not disclose who is bidding or asking for the stock, and it does not show how many shares the market maker is looking for. Real-time quotes show the current quote, but it may be from a different lot than what you are trading. Market makers love clients with this type of access because it doesn't show you the order sizes, and therefore your order may be passed around or held until market makers can profit from your order.

Level II
This type of quotation system is a step up from the Level I. Level II access provides real-time access to the quotations of individual market makers registered in every Nasdaq-listed security as well as the offering or bidding lots that they are looking for. This level of access also gives the name of the market maker looking to trade the stock. It allows traders to see what market makers are showing the most interest in a stock and to identify the patterns for each market maker. Level II access is available over the internet - but at a cost. This can range in the hundreds of dollars per month depending on the company. For clients placing a large number of trades, the firm may waive the access fee because they will make up the costs on your commissions.

Level III
This is a trading service consisting of everything in Level II plus the ability to enter quotes, execute orders and send information. This service is restricted to NASD member firms that function as registered market makers. Level III allows you to enter bid/ask quotes as the trades are being executed right in front of you. It is the fastest way to execute a trade and is typically found only on the trading floors of brokerage firms and market makers.

PCAOB - Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.  A Private-sector, nonprofit corporation, created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, to oversee the auditors of public companies in order to protect the interests of investors and further the public interest of investors with informative, fair and independent audit reports.

PSAR - The Parabolic SAR (Stop and Reverse) is a system of defining the point of trend's turns; The Parabolic SAR (PSAR) indicator is based on the link between a Forex market's price and time. The basic goals of the Parabolic System is to make reverse orientation of trading positions when the ongoing trend turns. The indicator is called like that due to the fact that when charted, the pattern resembles a parabola or French curve.

SOX - Sarbanes Oxley - The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (Pub.L. 107-204, 116 Stat. 745, enacted 2002-07-30), also known as the Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act of 2002 and commonly called SOX or Sarbox; is a United States federal law enacted on July 30, 2002 in response to a number of major corporate and accounting scandals including those affecting Enron, Tyco International, Adelphia, Peregrine Systems and WorldCom. These scandals, which cost investors billions of dollars when the share prices of the affected companies collapsed, shook public confidence in the nation's securities markets. Named after sponsors Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-MD) and Representative Michael G. Oxley (R-OH), the Act was approved by the House by a vote of 423-3 and by the Senate 99-0. President George W. Bush signed it into law, stating it included "the most far-reaching reforms of American business practices since the time of Franklin D. Roosevelt."[1]

STO - Stochastics  - A stochastic process is one whose behavior is non-deterministic in that a state does not fully determine its next state. Stochastic crafts are complex systems whose practitioners, even if complete experts, cannot guarantee success. Classical examples of this are medicine: a doctor can administer the same treatment to multiple patients suffering from the same symptoms, however, the patients may not all react to the treatment the same way. This makes medicine a stochastic process.[1] Additional examples are warfare and rhetoric, where the successes and failures cannot be certainly predicted.

T+3 - Trade plus three days to cash settlement.

Buzz Cloud - The Buzz cloud is an indicator of how frequently a ticker has been searched in the last 24 hours. Heavier, darker tickers are tickers that have been searched more often than lighter, smaller tickers.  The colors key off of the stock quote info. Green is up, red is down, black is unchanged.
