The New Tea Party:
An Explanation for Tea Parties Today (April 15, 2009)
and Similarities Between the Original Party

In 1773 British parliament passed the infamous Tea Act that led to the Boston Tea Party. We all know that law levied a tax on tea for the American colonies, but you may not realize the law lowered the tax rate and made British tea less expensive. Part of the legislation granted a monopoly to the financially troubled East India Company. Britain was trying to bailout the near bankrupt East India Company, which was sitting on stockpiles of tea it could not sell. This monopoly would eliminate all private tea merchants and outlaw all other sources of tea.

American colonialists were rightfully angered for two reasons. First, colonial merchants’ livelihood was being taken away by the government and given to a failing corporation. If the government could do this with tea, it could do this with anything. Second, colonialists recognized the British government’s ploy to trick colonists into accepting and acknowledging parliament’s right to levy taxes on the colonies. Britain thought the colonies would pay the tax as long as the tea was cheap. We all know Americans would not take taxes without representation.

When the East India Company sent tea to America under the new law, ships were turned away in Philadelphia and New York. In Charleston tea made it off the ships, but was locked up in a warehouse only to be sold years later by Americans to fund the revolution. On the night of December 16, 1773, Boston threw their illustrious tea party. So here we stand over two-hundred thirty-five years later in the United States of America.

Why are we here?

Our Founding Fathers wanted a limited centralized federal government. Our founders did limit centralized government. They recognized an important truth that those of us gathered for our tea party recognize today: government can only control the economy by controlling people. When British parliament attempted to bailout the failing East India Company, our founders recognized the attempted theft of economic freedom. They opposed it vehemently.

Government has no business in business. Liberty to practice freedom in the marketplace is an inalienable right outlined in the Declaration of Independence and protected in our Constitution. When our government confiscates large amounts of private wealth and enters the marketplace, it has far exceeded the power bestowed by the people. It has gone far beyond the framework of the Constitution. And those acting in the government’s name have violated their oath and pledge to all Americans.

Indebtedness welcomes our progeny into America. They are beholden to government for a tremendous financial obligation. Every dollar government spent from our children’s piggy banks is one less dollar our children can spend, one less dollar of economic freedom. Government has already deprived our children thousands of dollars of freedom. The government has no permission to spend our unborn children’s money.

The federal government must return power to the people. It has grown far beyond the control of the governed. The union of states constituted the federal government. We cannot permit the federal government to coerce states’ actions through conditional federal payments from locally collected taxes. We must stop the federal bureaucrats from telling the states how to spend their money, our money. We cannot permit centralized power in a federal government lacking authority.

Americans deserve better. For decades our political parties have traded policies of “tax and spend” for “borrow and spend” between one another. Each policy serves the same purpose: expand the power of centralized federal government at the cost of individual freedom. Rarely do they relinquish the powers usurped.

Now in economically troubled times both the current administration like the last fumbles from one crisis to the next. Our woes began with a sub-prime mortgage crisis that grew into a liquidity crisis and a banking crisis then an auto crisis. With each new crisis came a larger power grab in the form of tax-payer funded bailout, which has perpetuated the underlying problems. With each new failing corporation the federal government tries to avert failure by giving out our money, the money we were not willing to surrender by choice to failing endeavors.

America needs good leaders now more than ever. We can no longer accept mediocre leadership that has resulted in the theft of our money. Government has failed us for far too long, at all levels, federal, state and local, running up colossal debt. Now as many large corporations fail wiping out our retirement savings, our government leaders move to protect and preserve them at our expense. To those government leaders I say this, “Let the failures fail.” We must wash away those failures and remove those responsible from their leadership positions. There are good leaders throughout America. We must recognize them and elevate them. We must elect good leaders to the boards of our companies and governments.

One person will not be America’s savior. Everyone must play a role. We must be weary when one person promises to solve all the nation’s problems. We hoped for change and received more of the same. Our problems are systemic of a distant centralized government that believes it can better manage our lives than we are capable. What is best for an elitist distant politician is not best for all Americans.

Our Founding Fathers created America with a limited centralized federal government. Federal government will be limited. Government shall not decide what companies will be subsidized out of failure with tax dollars. Our progeny will be afforded representation before they are taxed any more. America deserves good leaders. Government shall not decide who will run private businesses. Whether in business or government, we will replace ineffective leaders set on a path of failure. As the Boston Tea Party ignited cries against “taxation without representation”, today our tea party puts bureaucrats on notice. We will not tolerate government depriving citizens of their livelihood to save a failing corporation. We will not tolerate taxation without representation.

The Media doesn't have a clue what this is about. It's probably for the best makes it grow stronger.

I think we should comprise a list of all those Senators and Congress people who voted for this PIG spending bill and try to get them removed before they try to do more damage. We MUST throw them OUT!!!!

I think it is about times states stood up for their the rights of their citizens. The Federal Government has for too long trampled States rights, forcing non-funded mandates and useless programs on the States. Of course Sovereign assertions are bi-partisan in the State houses, members are for the most part part-time legislators and serving terms for service and duty, not for stature and power, it's not their career which is what was intended for the Federal Government also. They are also not far removed from their constituencies and understand the problems facing them. The media and Washington Elites don't take it seriously for either not understanding the Constitution or not caring about trampling it.

Citizens need to send those in Washington a strong message that we're fed up and that is one strong way of doing it unfortunately it will be lost on many in Washington. The other message that needs to be sent is replacing the current bunch of do nothing legislators in Congress by not re-electing the incumbents in 2010 regardless of party. Throw them out and make them work for a living.

That's right Jet, I'm holding Delta Airlines, Wells Fargo, Ford, as well as a couple of other financial institution stocks (those not in danger of nationalization) and I'm up over 50% on my investments right now in those. I've traded the above but kept some core shares and it's going to be unbelievable when it returns to it's normal stability pps. (IMO)When the majority (3/4) of states according the 10th amendment have successfully passed their resolutions (and there are enough now before the states legislative houses to give us that should they all pass) then the Federal Government will have no choice but to bow before the states or risk being dissolved through a huge collaborative states seccession effort. The idiot liberals in Washington as well as the liberal media aren't taking it serious and are scoffing at it as a joke which is good actually, it give the states time to unify the effort and that's exactly what's going on. Also, take note that this is a TRUE bipartisan effort taking place as Democrats and Republicans are voting for this in the states houses. Anyone, more especially a stupid liberal, that thinks that seccession can't happen again is just crazy, not only can it happen again but it will happen again. Financial frauds ruin lives

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- A federal judge Wednesday ordered ex-Qwest Communications International Inc. Chief Executive Joseph Nacchio to report to prison in Pennsylvania by March 23 to begin serving a sentence for insider trading.

Nacchio will serve the six-year prison term at the minimum-security satellite prison camp at Minersville, Pa., according to an order by U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger.

A jury convicted Nacchio in 2007 on 19 counts of insider trading for illegally selling $52 million worth of stock six years earlier, after company insiders warned him that Qwest (Q, Fortune 500) could not meet its financial targets.

A three-judge appeals panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals threw out the convictions last year. But the full appeals court reinstated the conviction and Nacchio's six-year prison sentence last week.

Nacchio's attorney said her client would ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case. Nacchio's conviction was considered an important victory in government efforts to crack down on corporate titans who profited while their companies suffered financial setbacks.

The Securities and Exchange Commission is warning investors and financial services firms about con-artists who may use the names of actual SEC employees to mislead potential victims.

Washington, D.C. - infoZine - The agency also is providing information to help potential victims protect themselves from SEC impersonators.

In some instances, investors in the U.S. and abroad have been tricked into revealing private information, giving fraudsters access to their brokerage accounts, and even sending money and other assets to impostors. In other instances, unknown individuals have attempted to impersonate SEC examiners to gather confidential information from broker-dealers and investment advisers. Impostors have contacted firms by telephone, identified themselves as members of the SEC staff, and demanded immediate access to the firm's records, sometimes claiming to be conducting an "emergency" examination.

Investors should be aware that the SEC never makes or endorses investment offers or participates in money transfers. Nor does the SEC send e-mails asking for detailed personal information, or financial information such as PIN numbers.

"Investors should be especially wary, in these turbulent times, of any unsolicited investment offer, and should always verify the credentials of the individuals making the offer," said Kristin J. Kaepplein, Director of the SEC's Office of Investor Education and Advocacy. "If contacted by someone claiming to represent the Securities and Exchange Commission and vouching for investments, it's a scam. The SEC never endorses or participates in investment offers."

Always verify the identity of someone claiming to be from the SEC. Ask for the caller's name, the SEC office in which they work, and their telephone number. Then verify the caller's identity by calling the SEC's personnel locator at 202-551-6000 and asking to speak directly to that SEC staff member.

If contacted by someone unfamiliar to you claiming to be an SEC employee, please report it to the SEC by calling 800-732-0330 or e-mailing: help@sec.gov.help at sec dot gov. If a caller claiming to be an SEC examiner is found not to be a member of the SEC's staff, please report the incident to the SEC's Examination Hotline at (202) 551-EXAM.

Most importantly, if the caller is suspicious and can't be verified, do not share any information. Similarly, if the caller resists providing proof of identity, or efforts to reach the caller through a published SEC telephone number are unsuccessful, do not give the caller any information.

I heard from a friend who works at a regional bank that they were forced by the feds to take $3 billion from the bailout fund even though they didn’t need it. He said they did it to disguise what banks that are troubled, talk about a waste of money that could be used more effectively, another stroke of Paulson genius, he isn't gone soon enough Bernanke needs to join him.

Wow. When you can buy GE at almost $10 a share.....that's bargain. And there are plenty more of those types of bargains out there.

Oh, they're all idiots. What about everyone crying that all the adjustable rate mortgages resetting to higher interest rates and causing foreclosures and Bernanke in all his wisdom keeps raising rates. Then seems surprised by the financial melt down, they didn't know it would happen? Bernanke and Paulson should both be gone, so much for accountability.

So everyone praises "nilremerlin" for his prediction on the DOW reaching 7500. Anyone can make a prediction, its acting on it that counts. How many posts on the GTEM/SNSR board I made that came true later, only to be criticized that I have no proof. Dow Jones and Avaya got bought out. Sold Comcast,took a small loss on GTEM. In Aug of 2007 moved my funds to a money market account.
Today I moved all 401K money market funds into Fidelity Growth and Magellan Funds. This week sold all "mad money flipping" stocks that lost money and bought "like kind of stocks", need the tax deductions and may buy them back in 30 days. Been looking for a place in New Seabury area. I feel prices haven't gone down enough to buy right now. Not only did I call things right, I acted on it and I feel I made the right move today, time will tell.

My long term stocks: verizon, att, comcast, dow jones, avaya,nisource,Fidelity Growth, Magellan, International Discovery Fund and Institutional Money Market. I hardly pay any attention to these, yet there isn't a day I don't read all the GTEM ihub board and I don't own the stock. I plan on moving all Fidelity funds into the money market before the end of Aug. I feel the market cannot sustain this growth much longer. The Federal Budget deficit is getting to large, trade balance beyond control, American Infrastructure falling apart. To many people overspending because they feel wealthy because of the increased value of their home. I will be looking forward to buying a bayfront home again at Cape Cod in the next couple of years at a distressed price when people who have second homes can no longer afford them because of the rising interest rates. Just a little forward thinking, has been good for me most of my life. Been buying a lot of silver coins and sterling dinnerware sets in the past 4 years for 3 to 4 dollars an ounce and been selling over the past year mostly for scrap, still think silver is a good investment with all the use for electronics and countries like China and India becoming big users, but watching the fine line where abandoned mines will start opening up again if the price gets too high. Have too many things going on. When I need a break I enjoy the GTEM Ihub board. I sure hope everyone makes out ok. The biggest loss is not so much the loss on GTEM but having the money tied up during this record breaking stock market rally.

Yea, good luck with that. I was doing the same thing when I bought TMA, just bargain shopping and hoping for a small bounce due to the bailout package. Was shocked when I cleared 400% gain. I was actually only thinking maybe 50% tops. Quite a nice way to start the week!

I bought Thornburg Mortgage (TMA) last week at $.25 just doing a little bottom shopping anticipating a bounce if there would be a bailout plan finalized. I sold this morning up over 400%. Trades like that lately have been few and far between. Woohoo!!!!!!

This explains a lot of how we got into our current economic mess. Unbelievable, such stupidity and greed caused this and now everyone has to pay for it.

FTDs can be caused in several ways, but they commonly result from short sales in which the seller does not borrow or even locate the stock he sells (the infamous "naked" short sales). Regardless of how an FTD occurs, for each share not delivered the system creates a "phantom" entitlement the market treats as a real share. These "phantom shares" are supposed to be temporary in duration and few in number. Loopholes, however, are exploited on such a scale, and phantom shares are so persistent, they are corrupting the U.S. equity markets in three ways.

(1) Phantom shares warp corporate governance by inflating the number of voting shares. Bob Drummond (Bloomberg Markets) reported in April 2006, "The results of high-stakes company decisions may hinge on the invisible influence of millions of votes [i.e., phantom shares] that shouldn't be counted." In an analysis of 341 corporate votes in 2005 by the Securities Transfer Association, there was evidence of overvoting in all 341 cases.

(2) Phantom shares distort share prices by flooding the market with excess supply. In July 2006, SEC Chairman Christopher Cox said "abusive naked short sales ... can be used as a tool to drive down a company's stock price to the detriment of all of its investors." The creation and sale of phantom shares has become a common means to manipulate share prices in U.S. equity markets.

(3) Phantom shares create systemic risk. According to the Depository Trust and Clearing Corp. (DTCC), on any given day "fails to deliver and receive amount to about $6 billion daily ... or about 1½ percent of the dollar volume." Bradley Abelow, a former DTCC director, says FTDs within the settlement system "occur as a matter of course with great regularity," and calls them "endemic." The stock market has turned into a game of "musical chairs" where claims of ownership exceed shares issued. What happens when the music stops?

In a weak attempt to curb abusive naked short selling and reduce outstanding FTDs, the SEC implemented Regulation SHO in January 2005. Regulation SHO requires the stock exchanges to publish daily a list of "threshold securities" — companies that through no fault of their own have FTDs in excess of 0.5 percent of their outstanding shares. More than 6,000 companies have appeared on these Threshold Lists — many for hundreds of consecutive trading days. For these companies, Regulation SHO does not work.

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) data received from the SEC reveal that FTDs have been as high as 10 percent of the average daily trading volume on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. FOIA data also reveal that, for many companies, FTDs are a significant portion of their total shares outstanding — in at least one case more than 45 percent.
