Woody how would anyone get a dividend if they were NOT longs on the stock?

they were all longs on the stock that gave them divvies

Okay, I have an idea.

I bought MLON on Feb 6. That was the day before EX DATE to recieve dividend shares in XMET.

On Feb 7th I sold MLON although that day the symbol had changed to PYCT.

I had to assure TDW since all my account showed on the 7th was a million shares of MLON that I realized I would be technically short PYCT until they actually got the PYCT stock and if something went wrong I would have to buyin.

I of course agreed as I've done it many times before, and I knew exactly what I was doing.

For about two weeks my account showed me long MLON, short PYCT and it took about the same two weeks before I had my million free XMET shares.

I had the money in my account available to use for other trades, the second I sold the PYCT.

MLON WTF stock div in another company and name change? Ex div date is tomorrow. Not out in news yet.
