* Hammacher TREO Report
Called HS on Friday. The sales rep put me on hold to call the warehouse about the Treo situation. Here is what she told me:
* HS only ordered 100 units b/c they did not anticipate such demand. She elaborated that small initial orders are the company's "policy" so they don't get stuck with excess inventory. If you've seen some of the crazy stuff in the HS catalog over the years, you should understand why they have this policy.
* For whatever reason (possibly the parts shortage) the initial order was split into a shipment of 60 units followed by a shipment of 40.
* 60 Treos are in the warehouse, and they are all being shipped out to those who bought on backorder.
* The balance of 40 are due in May 18 and she said "you will have to hurry to get one of those." She may have been being a good salesperson, but she did confirm that many of the 40 were backordered, too.
* A re-order for more Treos will be placed with the vendor. Specifically, she said "we will order 100 more," but if backorders exceed 100, they will order accordingly, IMO.
* When I told her that I couldn't wait to get my Treo, she said softly, as if to not be overheard, "Try Sharper Image, they use the same vendors as us." She could not confirm that Sharper Image will carry the Treo, too, but FWIW, she suggested that I look. I did, and found no Treo (yet).
