conversation w/ RP 5/18/01

i spoke w RP this morning and do not have much new to report. I tried to confirm with him that H-S has received Treos and he would not comment claiming that was not in edig's purview but hy-tek's. He did reiterate that edig expects Treos to hit the retail market this quarter and stated that Eastech/oems were expected to be part of that mix. He clarified for me that Eastech/ATLM does its own manufacturing. No comment on brick and mortar retailers.

I asked if Treos have been provided to the press/media for review. He said that some of the media have been provided prototypes since the middle of March. He thought reviews by the print media should start to appear within the next 2-4 weeks. He seemed to poo-poo (a term of art} on-line media when i started to bring it up. I specifically asked about Walter Mossberg of the WSJ and RP said no that he would be provided with a household name branded jukebox; apparently RP believes he reviews no other kind.

I asked about the dataplay Orbit design and he confirmed that several companies have adopted it but will be different versionsof the Orbit design. I asked if he could say that when dataplay products roll out whether there would be double digit products using edig technology. He was hesitant to say that but again comfortably reiterated that there would be several products primarily focused around music. He again mentioned the Samsung PCMCIA product designed to store "data" (not just music} which as he understood would be primarilt used in laptops (ie where PCMCIA cards are generally used).

I asked about the status of MP2000 (does anyone remember edig's stepchild?). I got the usual waiting for content reply. He claimed its "in production" ( i did not press what he means by that- i assume ready to go ino production is more like it). He said just need someone (oem) to give the green light; there has been a lot of interest by oems to market as a stand alone product or "bundling with other products". I asked him if edig currently has signed deals and he would not comment.

Lastly, I asked RP if edig was doing any work with Linux. He at first made no comment or just hesitated (do not recall specifically) but then said we could expect to hear some news on that front.
