Five Reasons KTF Switches from CDMA to WCDMA

The real purpose of KTF’s decision to leave CDMA with 12.56 million subscribers for WCMDA (HSDPA) is drawing attention, as the switch would bring enormous changes to the Korean mobile communications market where CDMA service prevails.



First reason for KTF choosing WCDMA is the efficiency and low-budget network. WCDMA is the global standard for mobile technology and 90% of world mobile carriers adopted or plan to adopt WCDMA standard. Accordingly, WCDMA equipment is much cheaper than that of CDMA, explained KTF. Furthermore, the number of operators that choose CDMA is declining since 3G service was launched and the future of CDMA under 3.5G or 4G environment is unclear, added the company.
