Federal School Bus Safety Week Resolution Passes with Flying Colors

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 18, 2006) - The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 498, a resolution honoring the goals and ideals of School Bus Safety Week, by a landslide rollcall vote.

"I noticed one member cast a 'No' vote and promptly changed it to a 'Yes' to give us unanimity," said Becky Bentson Weber, a pupil transportation lobbyist for NSTA and managing director of D.C. firm BKSH & Associates, of the 424-0 vote.

Rep. Jimmy Duncan (R-TN) was the resolution's chief sponsor and Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-TX) and Rep. Bill Clay (D-MO) spoke in support of an official federal recognition of School Bus Safety Week on the House floor. An official record voted was expected to soon follow.

NSTA said it will plan School Bus Safety events in October for congressional districts to celebrate passage of the Resolution.
