Why am I reminded of...

...the Rolling Stones at Altamont in 1969 !

-----------------------------

For those too young to remember the Rolling Stones appeared at Altamont Speedway near SF in 1969 (along with The Dead, The Airplane, CSN & Y, Santana etc...) for a "free concert" !

It had all of the makings of a great day of Rock and Roll !

Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most violent days in rock history !

Mick Jagger and the Stones decided it would be a "really good idea" to enlist the help of the local chapter of The Hell's Angels to "police" the concert.

For their efforts...the "Angels" were paid...in BEER ! lol

There were no other security forces except the Hell's Angels, so if they got out of line, there would be no stopping them. The Angels' most popular choice of weapons for the day were pool cues, which were used to beat people. The other popular weapon was the beer can. They assumed that the best way to calm an angry crowd would be to throw full cans of beer at them.

At the end of the day, Marty Balin (one of the lead singers for Jefferson Airplane while onstage) had been beaten and knocked unconscious by one of the...ah hem..."Angels". Countless other beatings of concert goers by the...ah hem..."Angels" had occurred and one concert goer had been brutally stabbed to death by one of the...ah hem..."Angels" !

In all, 4 people died that day.

---------------------------

What does this have to do with iHub ? Not much !

But, it IS a sort of "Stanford Experiment" run amuck...and an extreme example of a dark side that can emerge when "certain individuals" are given power over others..."to enforce the rules" !!!
