First, we went to #2, West 47th Street, close to the corner of 5th Avenue.
As I entered the building, inquiring about the whereabouts of Global Diamonds Exchange, I happened to hear someone say "Global Diamonds? They just signed a lease with us, about 2 weeks ago....on the 7th floor".
I asked if Global Diamonds were in yet, and he said no, but were in the process of moving in.
The fellow was the building manager. His name was John Savelli.
This is the building:
This is a larger scene of the building:
Please be aware that this is 47th street. This is a wholesale jewelry district. Believe it or not, this is actually the 2nd nicest building on the entire block. I happened to have worked in the jewelry biz about five years ago, so I take it for granted, but people not used to NYC might be underwhelmed by the building. All I can say is that I have dealt with dealers with millions, who hold tiny little booths in the large "flea market" spaces on the street. #2 is a lovely space for the street. Just one Lobster's point of view..ymmv!
