@Doug - just OT
Doug, it find it a little boring, that some try to counter each
other all the time. I don't know wether this makes so much
sense. When you trash AMD, its clear, that MAS will instantly
step in and just reverse your statement. This doesn't make the
situation better. It seems to me, that the "fronts" are now
so hard, that each party couldn't post a single positive
comment to the competition. So while I agree with some
bearish comments to AMD, I also don't share your overly
optimistic scenario for Intel. It isn't all black or white -
you know that, MAS knows that and the others too, especially
WBMW should read this line. He/she is the extreme example,
which ALWAYS!!! sees Intel positive and trys to spin each
AMD move into negative. In the end I don't answer to him/her
anymore and I think others (hopefully) do the same. Its
pitty just because he/she quite would be "useful" for some content but
in this (seems so) "paid" (I call it so) way ...

When I read all the comments from the Intel-supporters these
days, I could ALWAYS hear, that C2D trashes A64/X2/Opteron.
I disagree with some comments and I have to agree sometimes -
C2D is a great design and I fully respect what Intel did. They
did really good no question. But in the last quarters another
major force appeared on the market after AMD filled the anti-
trust complaint. And this is the force, which prevented AMD for
gaining marketshare (meaningful) the last years before. Also
when I don't have to say this to you (you know it), it could-
n't be repeated that often - AMD is gaining share now in
(nearly) all (big) OEMs, especially in the business segment,
where they tend to have 0 (near) share. You know too, that
I tracked the distris and retail very carefully not only a
month - no, years and you know very well, that AMD was a
great performer here. I was not the only one who was bullish
because of this "news". What happened in the end? Right, AMD
wasn't able to gain (major) share. We were always a bit
shocked and frustrated why AMD wasn't able to gain share.
Retail always looked good, but OEMs (a gigantic part) looked
bad - no design-wins, no notebooks, server was weak and
especially no business skus in all segments.
Call me crazy, but I think that many Intel supporters now
OVERESTIMATE the (performance benefits) influences which C2D
could do (overall), which seems to me a parallel thing com-
pared to prior times for AMD (as above written). And these
don't instantly negate the effects, which work strictly for AMD,
when we look at all the NEW wins in ALL segments. They gained
massive Server-share, Notebooks look better and better every
quarter and desktop is and was strong and I forgot the MAIN
thing - they win and won BUSINESS SKUs and they now have DELL,
the major (Q3 = 2.) OEM player in the world. Performance here
or there, its important long time, no question and its always
nice to have the crown (which AMD will win again back in the
next time, when you know about (NDA) performance numbers for
the next parts). And when I look at this business segment
situation, AMD is only in the start to win major share here.
We have reached some milestones but much much more will come
in the next time and C2D couldn't change this - its that easy.
We could now argue, whether Q3 was the first (bad) move for
AMDs margin (C2D ASP influence) - we could discuss this in
length - but it has to be seen and you don't know what the
future brings to the ASP topic so I'm. In the end, we know
how the unit situation will do and it will do like I descriped
just above. I'm sure, I couldn't change your position, but
I hope you think about your agressive posting style, which
doesn't make sense.

disclaimer: I now held 0 AMD, 0 Intel shares
