I've found lots of brokers that will let you short penny stocks as long as they are marginable including TD Ameritrade as well as lots of Canadian ones.

The problem is the margin/maintenance fees.

TD Ameritrade on stocks under $2.50 it's $2.50/share.

Most of them in Canada stocks under .50 it's 100% margin plus fifty cents per share. Stocks over .50 it's just a straight 200% margin.

Kinda makes it awfully risky for the pennies.

Who is going to put up millions to short a subpenny to make a few grand?
