VIDEO: In December 2004 Paleoclimatologist extracted the oldest Ice Core ever retrieved from Antartctica. It measures 1.8 miles and spans 740,000 years of climate history.

Over this span, Earth experienced 8 Ice Ages. Interglacial periods like the one we’re in today are warmer. Over those 740k years, interglacial period aren’t that often compared to the amount of time we’re in a glacial period. One point that looks like the one we’re in today was called Marine Isotope Stage 11.

MIS11 lasted 30,000 years. We’re about 10,000 years into ours.
