I'm turning in now. No progress at all.

I'd been trimming down the folders table on SI all day because at 19.2 million rows, it's just not feasible to keep it updated on the development site in anything near realtime.

Wasn't having any problems until I wrote an ASP to remove the PM's that the site itself had sent but hadn't been read by the recipients. Probably worked out to batches of 300k or so at a time.

As far as we can tell, the "rollback" logs filled up, and it just plain shut down and refuses all attempts at recovery or growing the rollback logs.

As soon as I get up tomorrow, I'm looking for a real Oracle person to try to get it straightened out.

It looks like the data is all intact. We just can't get to it. And all but the last few hundred messages are backed up onto the new server. But the portfolios and some other things aren't. So we're trying our darnedest to get it working as quickly as possible.

And I'm gonna smack the snot out of the next smug Solaris/Oracle geek I run across online who badmouths W2K/SQL Server.

Edit: To make matters worse, I fell asleep about 6-ish yesterday afternoon (I guess that'd be the day before yesterday now) and woke up at midnight and got started on this trimming of the folder table. Meaning I've been awake for 26 hours now. And am supposed to be going to Harrah's tonight with the wife for the night in celebration of our 17th anniversary.
