What It Means to be a Critical Thinker on iHub

In-depth: Critical Thinking Skills Amongst Individuals

Critical thinking skills are not the forte of most people when in conversation, especially when the conversation is not of importance. Chitchat between old ladies and the discussion of securities are two very different topics that should be treated accordingly. There is also a similar correlation between ignorant jabber and intelligent discussion. The various levels of intelligence required in a confrontation between two or more parties demands some level of thinking.

The word “critical,” as defined by this author and as being used in this manner, is a word that makes sure the reader knows about the importance of the issue. What could be so “critical” to hopefully intelligent individuals in a conversation regarding such a keen and sometimes controversial topic? The unbiased facts are always helpful, and certainly in this case “critical.” When individuals are exchanging ideas, all of their opinions and ideas need to originate from a source of truth; otherwise they will have no idea as to what they are talking about. A person cannot identify an object if they know nothing about it. Or in our case, a poster cannot contribute a worthy opinion if they know nothing about the subject at hand.

Why would a community of individuals who are engaged in discussion need their opinions to be considerable? If they weren’t considerable, why would they need to post? The purpose of a message thread system is for people to exchange ideas in order to educate one another. Each individual poster has their own unique database of knowledge that, for the sake of iHub’s purpose, should be shared with others in a reasonable manner. The act of exchanging ideas is usually initiated with the release of company news or another poster posing a question, but a random outburst of opinions for the purpose of either introducing yourself or letting others know of your current, and hopefully ever changing opinion.

Another way to express one’s critical thinking skills is to respectfully reply to another poster’s opinion by applying your own opinions, which should be based on facts, to the other poster’s opinion. Addressing each idea at a time can easily create an understandable and overall better counter-opinion. In turn you will have created a dialog type reply where the reader will easily be able to identify which issue you are responding to without confusion.

When responding to another post, presentation is not a critical, but a much needed feature that will gain credibility on your part. Using proper, but basic grammar skills will aid in you boasting your credibility. Hopefully grammar will not cause your opinion to be more persuasive. If you carry a strong point, then persuasion isn’t necessary. The argument itself should be able to win the battle, but a well-read post is always a good finish.

The ideas compiled within this report are based on four years of following internet message boards, countless suspensions from them, and an infinitive number of attacks from some intelligent and some not so intelligent posters. The author hopes you can use these ideas to aid your quest in indepth discussion. The author wishes you well and may you carry a sharp point.
