Hi guys…ok, here’s a bit of my history. Years back, they use to have an annual Shark and Stingray tournament at Tomales Bay, California. It’s a well known spawning area for these species. Biologists would be there to study the innards, and the guys from the local pet food company would haul away the carcasses. Eventually the bleeding hearts said “don’t hurt the fishies” and it was cancelled after many years. My buddy Richard, and I, were well known in this tournament. People would say, “crap, Frank and Richard are here”. Three divisions got trophies. Big Shark, Stingray, and total weight. Sharks didn’t grow big here so we always went after Stingrays. Always a chance at two of the trophies. We won many of them, but our most memorable was one particular year. We took off at the crack of dawn, and started to pull in rays. By 11:00AM (contest ended at 4PM) we had so many rays tied off of all four cleats, that we decided we had to go in to unload. When we got to the dock, a bunch of guys running the tournament, ran down and started taking the rays off. Within moments, the dock started sinking! We were loaded! No one had ever sunk a dock before..:) the end result was that we won another two trophies. 2,850 pounds of rays, with big fish of 140 pounds. What a day!
Can I join fellas? I’ve got many more fish stories! :)
fda
PS..yeah, I'm mainly a freshwater wimp. But I have caught over 50 saltwater species, those that count?
