Rock 'n' Roll Artists A-Z...Rick Derringer

http://www.rickderringer.com/

Young guitar great, vocalist andentertainer Rick Derringer was just 16 when his band "The McCoys"recorded the No.1 hit "Hang On Sloopy" in the summer of 1965,knocking "Yesterday" by The Beatles out of the top spot.

"The McCoys" had enjoyed four years ofsuccessful touring, when Rick merged his talents with Johnny Winterin 1969 forming "Johnny Winter And" ("And" referring to "TheMcCoys").

Rick was the only producer of all goldand platinum Winter Brothers recordings.

In '71 Rick was featured on threerecords, "Johnny Winter And", "Johnny Winter And-Live" and "EdgarWinter's White Trash". "And" featured the first version ofDerringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" which was also released as asingle, then selected again for "And - Live".

Eventually the busy Derringer joinedEdgar's White Trash full-time and produced the gold LP, "Roadwork".Derringer's solo album, "All American Boy" was released in '73 withthe now already popular "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo", this time as a'hit' single.

Rick was writer/producer of JohnnyWinter's "Still Alive and Well" album and player/producer of the hitalbum, "They Only Come Out At Night". The latter featured the No. 1,Grammy nominated monster hit, "Frankenstein" and "FreeRide".

In 1976 Rick created the Derringer Band.During the latter half of the seventies Derringer released fouralbums, Derringer, Sweet Evil, If I Weren't So Romantic I'd Shoot Youand Face To Face. In 1983 Rick returned to his solo career with theLP, "Good Dirty Fun."

Throughout the 70's and 80's the popularDerringer appeared on numerous albums with artists Alice Cooper,Richie Havens, Todd Rundgren and Steely Dan. The list also includesCyndi Lauper, Barbra Streisand, Kiss, Mason Ruffner and MadamX.

In the mid-80's, Derringer discoveredWeird Al Yancovic, producing music for Grammy-winning albums andvideos. Derringer's productions of the Michael Jackson parodies, theNo. 1 hit "Eat It," and "Who's Fat," have been Yancovic's mostsuccessful recordings.

Rick was selected to beproducer/writer/performer of the World Wrestling Federation LP's.Hulk Hogan's theme song, "I Am A Real American" was written andperformed by Rick as a part of these projects.

Derringer was once again sought after byEdgar Winter and in 1990, performed for the LP, "Edgar Winter andRick Derringer Live in Japan". In the late 1990's many shows foundRick and Edgar on stage together and they joined together for anall-star re-union with the White Trash Horns at 1999'sMontreauxJazz Festival. Also in 1999Rick then collaborated with Edgar as songwriter/guitarist on his"Winter Blues" CD.

Through the 1990's Rick has recorded astring of highly acclaimed blues releases on Shrapnel Records BluesBureau International including "Back To the Blues" in 1993 followedby "Electra Blues," "Blues Deluxe" and his 2000 release "JackhammerBlues."

Derringer's destined-to-be-classic "Tendthe Fire" was released in Europe in 1996 to rave reviews and is eagerlyexpected by his loyal fans here in the US.

The year 2001 was a busy year for Rick Derringer and his family 'The Derringers' Rick, Brenda, Lory and Marty. Rick's venture back into Rock and Roll with Superstars Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert produced a recording of intense synergy (DBA - Derringer, Bogert and Appice) with vocals, writing and instrumentals shared by all three. Rick has followed closely on the heels of this project with a work from the heart and soul of Rick Derringer and Brenda Hall entitled 'Aiming For Heaven.' Aiming For Heaven brings forth Rick and Brenda's devotion to God and puts it into song with help from daughter and son Lory and Marty. This work is a production and writing masterpiece as only the Derringers could capture.

Rick has also completed a smooth jazz project in 2001 which is yet to be released. As Rick gets back on the road in 2002, he is recording a live show for future release. Fans will surely look forward to the energy that the Rick Derringer Band currently brings to their shows.
