General Info

Mystic Records - "Where The Music Really Matters"
ReGenesis: The Early Genesis Tribute Band - "Lamb for Supper - Live 2001", published by Mystic Records, documents a live performance of ReGenesis, the UK Genesis Tribute Band, in March 2001 at G2, the 2001 Genesis fan convention at Guilford Civic Hall, Surrey, England. This is the third live album from ReGenesis, the first two albums being "ReGenesis Live" (1998) and "Here It Comes Again" (1999). I was quite impressed with "Lamb for Supper - Live 2001". ReGenesis is full of accomplished musicians: Steve Marsh (guitar/backing vocals), Andy Hyam (bass/guitar), Doug Melbourne (keyboards/vocals), Tony Patterson (lead vocals/flute/tambourine), Jamie Fisher (drums/percussion), and Nigel Appleton (drums - guests on two tracks). As the title "Lamb for Supper - Live 2001" implies, the bulk of the material on this live CD is taken from the classic 1974 Genesis double-album "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway". The classic 1974 tunes selected for inclusion on this new ReGenesis CD are "Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging" (2:57), "Chamber of 32 Doors" (5:19), "The Lamia" (6:57), "Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats" (5:06), and "The Colony Of Slippermen" (6:22). In addition, an extended version of "Supper's Ready" (23:30) from the 1972 Genesis album "Foxtrot", and "Dance on a Volcano/Los Endos" (14:37) from 1976's first post-Peter Gabriel album "A Trick Of The Tail" are also included, the latter featuring a drum duet between current drummer Jamie Fisher and guest Nigel Appleton. The only repeat tracks from previous ReGenesis live efforts are "Supper's Ready" (included on "ReGenesis Live") and "Los Endos" (also on "Here It Comes Again"). If you never had a chance to hear Genesis live, this is the next-best thing. Regenesis faithfully captures the sound and feel of early Genesis in a live setting, and the recording/production of the concert is excellent. Based on what I've heard on the CD and photos included in the jewel-case, I expect ReGenesis live is an aural and visual feast not soon forgotten. For Genesis fans, "Lamb for Supper - Live 2001" is highly recommended.
