THE HARMON NEIGHBORHOOD (compiled by nufced)
Harmon Avenue - East/West Connector
When completed, the Harmon Avenue East/West Connector will consist of a new six-lane roadway
extending from Polaris Avenue (west of Las Vegas Boulevard) to Audrie Lane (east of the Strip) and
will overpass the future I-15 frontage road (Frank Sinatra Drive), I-15 and Industrial Road.
The first phase of this project, construction of a storm drain between Las Vegas Boulevard and Koval
Lane, was completed in August 2000. The next item of work, involves the realignment of Harmon
Avenue at its intersection with the Strip followed by the construction of the overpass facility. Work on
these two sections is expected to begin this year (2002). Approximately $14 million from Resort
corridor room tax revenues are being used to finance this construction.
Future Harmon Avenue Improvements:
Improvements proposed as part of this overall project include the construction of a "connector road"
between Harmon Avenue and Industrial Road. This link will provide motorists with one travel lane in
each direction along with a continuous left turn lane, from a signalized intersection of Harmon Avenue
with Aldebaran Avenue to a signalized intersection with Industrial Road, south of Business Lane.
Continuation of Harmon Avenue improvements as far west as Arville Street and proceeding east to
Swenson Street, are also being considered. A timeline for this continuation has not yet been
determined.

Clark County Commissioners gave the green light Thursday to a proposed casino on Paradise Road
across from the Hard Rock resort. The commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the necessary zone change
from general commercial to resort/gaming. Briad Lodging Group, the developer, needed the zone
change to build an eight-story, 317-room hotel tower and 55,000-square-foot casino. Plans also include
restaurants, a six-story parking garage and a convention center. The move essentially moves the
existing gaming enterprise zone east to cover the proposed resort's 5.8 acres.
The parcel has access to Swenson Street on the east.
Polo Towers owner Stephen Cloobeck announced Thursday that he plans to build a $240 million
time-share complex across from the Aladdin on Harmon Avenue.

Why the name Nine? That's the age at which the owners (including star chef/consultant Michael Kornick) met. Also behind the glitzy venture are Michael Morton and Scott DeGraff, co-owners of Nine Las Vegas. On the menu: American contemporary dishes, including Atlantic grouper with bacon, escarole and beans, and crispy fried onions. The slick upstairs Ghost Bar, which carries a wicked futuristic theme, is a retreat for pre- and after-dinner patrons. Guests can order appetizers and cocktails, including the Ghostini (which comes with a Casper-like swizzle stick).
