More thoughts on WorldCom...

and how insane it all is.

If WorldCom has lost $80,000,000 per month over the last 15 months, although it seems staggering, consider this.

If it is true that WCOM handles 1/2 of the Internet Traffic, then they should be JAP-SLAPPED for their own ignorance.

There is a fine line between competition and profitability.

Consider this...

Let's assume that globally there are 160 Million Internet Subscribers. (probably more by now, but this illustration is for mathematical purposes).

That would mean that WCOM is handling traffic for half those users....80,000,000.

Now, the math is quite simple. WorldCom should be charging at least $1 per month more per Internet User to the ISP's
to handle that business. In typical economic fashion, the ISP would then likely charge the end user a mere $2 a month more.

In this world of Internet Service Providers who charge a monthly fee ranging from a low of $6.95 to about $21.95 per month, my bet is that MOST would be willing to pay the lousy $2 per month more to maintain the service that WCOM provides.

The question remains....why didn't WCOM see this?

IMHO, they deserve what they get, but if they "belly up", what in the world happens to the Internet if they indeed DO handle HALF the World's Internet Traffic??

Do we need a government bailout plan here?
