Amy -- the problem is that, unless any precedent in this case is STRICTLY limited to instances just like this one, of the outing by those in control of the government of a covert agent, then all other sorts of 'deep throat' type sources and other whistleblowers who must keep their identities secret will stop ever coming forward, knowing that if they do their identities will be exposed at the penally-enforced insistence of the government -- and at the same time investigative reporters will shy from such stories to avoid getting caught in such a vice -- all with probably catastrophic consequences for our already limited ability to get real info re what the government is up to -- hence the Abrams statement quoted by Capt_Nemo -- this is a classic instance of the old legal saw, of 'a good case making bad law'
