Q televising NAVGA Volleyball Championships? Looks like the members have voted 10-1 so far in favor of Q televising the North American Gay Volleyball Association Championships....

Hello, all.

The Board has extended the timeline for input from members to April 25. To date the tally is approximately 10 to 1 in favor of televising.

We are interested in hearing from MORE of the membership (since we have a little more time).

Please read the original post (shown at bottom of this one) give us your input via responses to this new posting.

In addition, read the responses posted on the original topic.

Greetings to all the NAGVA folks that read the Forums!

During last night's NAGVA Board conference call, we revisited the topic of Televised Championships. The Board is requesting input (pro, con, and administrative) from players.

The current proposal from Q-Television is to broadcast play from Championships 2005 in Dallas (as part of a lead-up to their coverage of Gay Games in Chicago 2006).

The Board is particularly concerned with protecting players who might not want to be filmed. (Yes, in today's society many people have the luxury of being fully or partially out at work and in life; however, the Board is interested in the concerns of the players who for varied reasons are not willing or able to come out and for whom NAGVA tournaments provide an opportunity to both enjoy their sport and the fellowship provided.)

PRO/CON input will help guide the Board's ultimate decision related to this year's Championships.

ADMINISTRATIVE input is also requested. This would be based on a "YES" decision -- but can also provide answers to concerns that might otherwise warrant a "NO" decision. Areas of input might cover additional waivers, camera/court limitations, restrictions on filming (areas of the facility and/or individual players), NAGVA-provided staffing required for effective implementation during Championships, or other thoughts.

I will be compiling all responses in THIS topic chain that are posted not later than April 8, 2005. I will present a summary of the input to the Board as a whole. During our April 12th conference call, the Board will have a discussion of the input and likely make a decision for Championships 2005. If you have already provided input directly to a Board member, please also POST such input in this topic chain for visibility to all Forums readers and so it will be included in my compilation.
