Worldwide notebook sales reach new heights

http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20050817A1001.html

Worldwide PC sales in the second quarter grew more than 18% on year, amounting to 47.5 million units, according to IDC. Notebooks accounted for a record 30%, or 14.3 million units, while desktop sales totaled 31.6 million units.

While desktop shipments grew about 13% on year, the notebook segment saw growth of more than 30% from a year earlier, the makers cited the IDC figures as showing.

Expecting notebook sales to be further driven by the forthcoming Intel dual-core Napa platform and Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, makers predict that notebooks will account for more than 40% of the PC market in 2006-2007, and will pass 50% in 2008.

It´s a shame that AMD will fall so far back early next year on the technology front in the mobile space.
