I’LL REPORT YOU DECIDE.

There has been much speculation on I-Hub about service providers, and the need for a service provider, and the need for a PR about a service provider to really kick things off, and oh yes, the down load of PaperClick from a service provider. Qcurt the timing of your post was perfect, and right on.

OK, this is the deal. What was said at the NeoMedia booth was that yes you need a connection to the mobile web that is provided to you by companies like Verizon. Right now you can just have Verizon turn that function on for a $5.00/mo. fee. That’s it. No big deal. Just get your phone access to the web. There will be no PR about a service provider (.). This makes sense now. How could PaperClick be locked into one service provider or even two or three? This makes it a non issue, kind of like they are all generic, and who cares. It’s just a mobile web access, and all mobile phone companies offer it. In the end, service providers will also make money by default, since you will need to get the mobile internet connection, and pay the fee, where as before you were not internet connected. The service provider does not even need to know that PaperClick even exists. NeoMedia certainly knows what’s happening by monitoring the action on its servers, and analyzing the data.

OK, how do I get PaperClick installed on my phone? Ah, that is the question. Remember that the first priority is to get the brand owners/managers to sign up. Foote Cone & Belding was assigned to marketing brand owners to activate identifiers, (pictures bar codes, RFID, etc.), to brand owners like P&G, Jeep, General Electric, etc.

The participating brand owners mobile web sites will be offering PaperClick down loads to their customers that have mobile access on their phones, and that’s how it will work. When you think about it, this is a logical mode to operate in, because it is all done completely with the permission of the consumer. He uses his own mobile internet service, and it’s his own interest in the product that introduces him to PaperClick. The problem with the SPs down loading PaperClick is trying to get them to do it. NEOM sees them as being too slow to respond, where as the brand owners have an interest to see the public have PaperClick on their cell phones.

We discovered the real reason why NeoMedia, and Mobot will be the mobile marketing wedding of the year. It was stated at the NEOM booth that the Mobot digital photo data was transferred from the users cell phone to Mobot servers by MMS, and not the mobile web. This was verified at the Mobot booth. It’s also on their web site.

We were given a demonstration at the Mobot booth. The process of transferring the digital photo to Mobot servers appeared to be a cumbersome process to put it mildly. The combination of the PaperClick one step point, and click, and Mobot’s image recognition capability makes a truly user friendly ubiquitous connection of the real world to the cyber space of the www. The person at the Mobot booth concurred that this was true.

The ubiquitousness, (Did I just make a new word? LOL), of Mobot’s application became more apparent when the question that I had been wanting answered ever since I heard of Mobot, was answered both at the NEOM booth, and at the Mobot booth. I held up a golf ball with the Nike logo on it, and asked the question, “Will Mobot’s image recognition software recognize the logo on the golf ball, and will it also recognize that it is imprinted on a golf ball? We’re not talking about a logo on a picture in a magazine, but a logo on a real physical item in the real physical world. With out hesitation the answer was YES from NEOM, and Mobot. This means that you really don’t need a bar code, and many items don’t come with bar codes, and cannot have a bar code put on it in any practical way. With this technology a picture of any manufactured thing with a logo on it can send you instantly to that specific product mobile web site. In the case of the golf ball with the Nike logo, it could make the connection to the Nike golf equipment web site.

The temperament of the people at NeoMedia booth was very upbeat, and positive, and why wouldn’t it be? They spoke clearly with no hesitation. I was impressed with their confidence in their product, which gave me a big lift in confidence that I made a good investment. It was a nice experience. The person at the Mobot booth showed the same, and when asked about NeoMedia there was glow of excitement about the Marriage, and wedding arrangements………………..if you get my drift. LOL
