Alvarion reported a loss of $4.9 million, or 8 cents per share, for the fourth quarter compared with a loss of $6.8 million, or 12 cents per share, during the year-ago period. Sales totaled $46.5 million, down 17% from $55.9 million a year ago. The company said last year's higher sales were mainly from one large customer.
Sequentially, sales rose 3% from $45 million in the third quarter.
For the full year, the company reported a loss of $13.6 million, or 23 cents per share, compared with earnings of $851,000, or a penny per share, a year ago. Excluding items, the company's loss totaled 13 cents per share, compared with earnings of 24 cents per share a year ago. Sales fell 3% to $195.7 million from last year's $201.5 million.
OUR TAKE: This is what we expected from Alvarion. Remember, they had NO WiMAX components ship last year because of the delays in the IEEE certification.
